HP Z800 Specs

Hello,

I currenty have a Z800 with x2 Xeon 6 core x5650 processors, 48GB ram and a Quadro FX4800 graphics card.

The machine was supplied as an Avid Qualified PC around 5 years ago although the graphics card was never qualified with those processors, only the 4 core version. This has never caused a problem in the past through. We also have added the extra ram since then.

I'm currently able to play 8 streams from either a RAID0 or a USB3 SSD without any problems. Adding a 9th stream results in dropped frames and red bars on the timeline. Interestingly though the processors, ram and graphics card usuage isn't maxed out. The graphics card says it's only around 20% used. On some occasions Avid struggles to play 1 stream out even on simple projects, media is usually DNXHD185 or XDCAM50.

Is the FX4800 card still qualified or should I look at upgrading and will I notice much of a difference? I wondered about changing to a nvidia M4000.

The software version is 8.5.2 and I have also tried adjusting the Media Cache setting to use more of the available ram.

Any thoughts on this system and potential upgrades would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Nick
