I know there were some post about this, but I am not sure I saw anything about this solution.
I got the message:
"There was a critical error initializing the licensing engine. Error Code: (5) Please contact Avid Customer Support."
And thought it must have been something a simple corrupted/'wrong-permissioned' file, since it only happened after a hard reset of the system.
What fixed it straight away was deleting the Pro_Editor folder, empty the bin, and restart the computer.
On Apple devices Pro_Editor is located here: /library/application\ support/avid/licenses
