I took a look at the release notes for BCC 10 and it has a comprehensive list of known issues. I read through them and some seem pretty bad. Things like OpenGL effects and 4K footage don't work properly except for those effects in the 3D category. They include mention of the Mocha issue I reported elsewhere. If you plan to purchase BCC 10 check out this list before you do. Let's hope Boris plans to address these within the version 10 lifespan.
BCC AVX 10.0.0 – Known Issues and Limitations:
- 28732 – BCC Extruded Text and BCC Type On Text use a custom text entry window and some of the changes that can be made through in this window are not reflected in the preview within the text window on Mac OS (although they will be apparent in the effect when previewed/rendered back in the host). The following text attributes do not preview within the text window:
- Justification (when Word Wrap is not enabled)
- Top Down Text
- Right to Left Reading
- Negative Line Leading
- Italics (for fonts that don’t include an italic typeface)
- Superscript and Subscript
- 26068 – In BCC Particle Emitter 3D, changing the Blend Mode in the Spawn group can unexpectedly affect the main particle compositing.
- 27591 – BCC Motion Tracker – if you change the tracker search width, target width, color space, or accuracy after an initial tracking pass, you must now reset the tracker data with the reset button in the tracker banner before starting a second tracker pass. (This extra step is not necessary if the tracker point picker location has changed.)
- 25867 – In BCC Type On Text the Line Leading in the text entry preview window does not accurately match up with the leading in the rendered result, and the leading may need to be adjusted to generate the desired final render.
- 27313 – The Beat Reactor propagation options generate unexpected results in Organic Strands. Use non-propagation modes which work as expected as a temporary workaround.
- 27736 – When using a host image layer as the particle type in Particle Emitter 3D, the particles can appear squished/stretched in projects with non-square pixel aspect ratios.
- 26750 – The Beat Reactor audio graph becomes less accurate as the Frequency Resolution is increased to high values. Use lower values near the default setting of 32 as a workaround.
- 26845 – BCC LED shows occasional mis-colored dots on Quadro FX 3500 cards.
- 25671 – When stacking multiple effects on a track and then rearranging the order of those effects, parameter errors may occur such as button parameters functioning as simple checkboxes instead of true buttons. We are working with Avid to resolve this issue.
- 27292 – Effect stacks will occasionally display an error stating “Connect failed to connect” when preview at less than full resolution. This error does not affect final render and can be worked around by switching to full green/green preview resolution. We are working with Avid to resolve this issue.
- 29533 – The apply modes Boost Expo 1, 2, and 50/50 mix do not give the expected result in Grunge.
- 29777 – In Grunge the Edge Offset control in the Chromatic Aberration group is not working as designed.
- 30613 – Flicker Fixer – When using the Key/Mask controls the intensity of the flicker correction is only half as strong as it should be, even in regions that should be fully corrected.
- 30351 – Pan and Zoom – Preview Mode rectangle widgets don’t match the final result exactly when using 3D Mode with non-square PAR comps. Settings which tend to produce more exaggerated 3D perspective will increase the relative amount of difference between the preview widget and the final result.
- 30395 – Combining 3D Objects filters with other OpenGL accelerated BCC filters such as Lens Flare 3D or Grunge can occasionally cause render errors or instability due to lack of hardware resources depending on host resource use, graphics card capabilities, and BCC 4K preference settings.
- 30632 – Some OpenGL accelerated filters such as Lens Flare 3D will always render as if Safe Levels is enabled even when Safe Levels is turned off.
- 30638 – Lens Flare 3D – enabling the Geometrics in Pre-Apply mode causes the image to be squished horizontally when in Green/Green mode or in final render.
- 30653 – Mac only – 3D Objects filters can show an unexpected brightness shift in 16bit when using the Trasforms->Opacity control to reduce the object opacity on Mac. As a temporary workaround you can use the Effect Layer Opacity control in the General Controls group instead of the Opacity control in the Transforms group to achieve a similar result.
- 30959 – The integrated Beat Reactor params in some filters may default to incorrect values if a BCC preset is loaded prior to enabling the Beat Reactor.
- 1624 – LED – Adjusting Grow Alpha param to larger values can cause performance degradation or unexpected behavior in 16bit mode.
- 1619 – Fast Film Process is overly sensitive to changes in the tint color when tint amount is set to high values.
- 1540 – Grunge – dust elements will sporadically render as a squares instead of proper irregular dust shapes.
- 1604 – FX Browser – Choose Folder dialog box becomes hidden if folder panel location is moved from default workspace location. As a temporary workaround you can Alt-tab out of the host and then back in to make it appear.
- 1602 – PixelChooser subpresets don’t load when selected in the pop menu but they do load when using the Load option in the menu.
- 1593 – mocha PixelChooser – unexpectedly ignores values set in PC Mask Intensity slider
- 1559 – Reframer – When the background is set to Scale to Fit, the background X/Y Position moves the entire background layer instead of offsetting the video with the available source content.
- 1568 – FX Browser – Mac – Browser UI does not launch until you move the mouse out of the effect editor. As a temporary workaround be sure to move the mouse outside the effect editor pane after clicking the launch button.
- 1309 – mocha PixelChooser – Background Rendering does not work. As a temporary workaround you should avoid the Avid background rendering option when using tracked mocha splines in the PixelChooser.
- 1167 – Hitting Reset to Factory Defaults in Avid turns on the Use Legacy PixelChooser checkbox even though it should remain off.
- 1503 – Fast Lens Blur can render slower than expected on older graphics cards – particularly older MacBook Pro laptops older than 2015.
- 1528 – FX Browser – Win – For filters with large numbers of presets, some of the thumbnails may not refresh until you move the mouse.
- 1526 – FX Browser – Mac – Save Workspace menu is missing.
- 1435 – PixelChooser is currently missing Heads-Up-Display overlay widgets
- 1395 – Lens Flare 3D and other lighting filters can’t be applied to alpha clips without requiring specically specifying the background layer for compositing.
- 1382 – Fast Film Glow & Film Glow: Selecting Reset to Factory Defaults does not completely return the filter to its default state.
- 497 – Pixel chooser – feathering option does not work for OpenGL filters.
- 645 – mocha PixelChooser – mocha track data is nto currently saved along with presets nor with the PixelChooser sub-presets. As a temporary workaround when you wish to clone mocha tracking data from one effect instance or machine or host to another, you can use the File->Export Project and File->Merge Project options from within the mocha UI.
- 799 – Loading a BCC effect preset saved in another host will enable the BCC AVX Safe Levels
- 1076 – mocha PixelChooser – tracking data does not adjust if the user changes the clip trim on the front end of the clip after tracking. As a temporary workaround a clip will need to be re-tracked if the trim is changed on the front.
- 1136 – Video Glitch – Brightness Flicker is somewhat flat looking.
- 496 – PixelChooser in OpenGL filters shows poor gradation in gradient masks.
- 663 – Optical Stabilizer – subtle horizontal banding artifacts when applied to some interlaced clips
- 1107 – PixelChooser – Circle and Egg Shape can show stretched shapes or feathering when in interlaced projects and set to Speed Optimized. As a temporary workaround you can change the Fields menu in the General Controls group to Quality Optimized.
- 1070 – Pixel Chooser – Egg and Circle modes don’t work correctly in OpenGL filters on avid.
- 877 – Geometrics drop shadow option in OpenGL filters can produce unwanted colors.
- 871 – Video Glitch – Block Damage Freeze Source seems to jitter back and forth between 2 frames rather than totally freezing
- 400 – Pixel Chooser – feathering can cause a mirror-edge effect on masks near edge of screen.
- 265 – Rays Dissolve – Region Animation doesn’t account for non-square aspect ratios or custom downsampling factors.
- 1292 – Fast Film Process can show minor flickering around edges for shaky shots.
- 1222 – Fast Lens Blur can produce slightly more course gradients near high contrast regions than than original CPU version for large blurs. As a temporary workaround you can increase the Quality setting.
- 1112 – mocha PixelChooser – the mocha UI does not display video if timeline quality is set to Green 10 and you are in an OpenGL filter. As a temporary workaround you can reduce the host quality level to regular green/green and then relaunch the mocha UI.
- 932 – Lightning – Effect Layer Opacity control does not work.
- 690 – Importing a external files in Pan & Zoom with dimensions larger than 16k X 16k can cause unexpected behavior.
- 431 – With Optical Stabilizer, inserting a transition at the head of the stabilized clip makes it lose stabilization & the filter has to be re-analyzed
- 1519 – Title Studio – objects using off center pivot preview incorrectly at Avid reduced resolutions
- 1613 – Title Studio – Title Container – Type On doesn’t auto update text when applied
- 1603 – Title Studio – Reopening projects saved with obj models can trigger unexpected errors
- 1607 – Title Studio – Some specific C4D model files can cause unexpected behavior of misaligned textures when opened.
- 1605 – 3D Objects – FX Browser – Cannot copy/paste text into text entry field
- 1606 – FX Browser and Title Studio UI can cause unexpected behavior when mirroring displays on some MacBook Pro laptops
- 1427 – Title Studio – Color channel change in the comp window not respected the next time you open the UI
- 1450 – Title Studio – Camera position moves in opposite direction of cursor when dragging the Translate Interactor
- 1452 – Title Studio – Drop shadow ignores zoom level in alternate views
- 1477 – Title Studio – Enabling Motion Blur changes comp window background to black
- 1537 – Title Studio – does not properly support .png files
- 1539 – Title Studio Plugin Mac – Menu Bar doesn’t update back to the host when toggling apps until you cancel or apply
- 1545 – Title Studio – Using the hand tool to move the comp window causes it to continue to move with camera motion
- 1555 – Title Studio – Imported Obj object geometry can display incorrect material color attributes
- 1576 – Title Studio – Media Window: Linking missing media can display incorrect information
- 1494 – Title Studio – After Fit to Window, zooming in even a little bit zooms to 1600%
- 1495 – Title Studio – Shortcuts for 1600%, Fit to 100%, and Fit are all the same
- 1553 – Title Studio – Scene lighting incorrect with imported OBJ models
1556 – Title Studio – cannot import MTL file associated with OBJ model - 1561 – Title Studio – Imported Models do not have drop shadow functionality
- 1573 – Title Studio – Does not indicate when a media file is missing
- 1524 – Title Studio – EPS colors are retained upon extrusion. If this is not desirable you can convert the EPS data to a Spline Object.
- 1497 – Title Studio – FX Browser Folders view “Show Files from Subfolders” does not work
- 1488 – Title Studio – Mac: At High Preview Quality, ghosting is visible when Smoothness for Motion Blur is set to Highest.

- 1471 – 3D Objects – FX Browser does not follow the background parameter in Avid
- 1479 – Title Studio – Type On effects do not animate when scrubbing timeline in the Title Studio UI
- 1385 – 3D Objects – Text Entry tab in FX Browser does not display text unless preset is changed
- 1432 – Title Studio: Camera interactors in world view allow for X/Y/Z movement beyond the parameter limits
- 1429 – Title Studio – drop shadow can look incorrect when viewed at reduced resolution.
- 1045 – 3D Objects FX Browser – Text entry field does not show the proper number of text tracks until you manually select a preset
- 1423 – Title Studio – Mac: Extruded Spline with Texture material applied shifts in position depending on Host resolution
- 1413 – Title Studio AVX – Can show problems with setting Front Material to Texture
- 1374 – Title Studio – Rigid Run markers obscure loop region markers
- 1334 – Title Studio AVX – Effect sometimes does not rendering objects far back in Z space
- 1258 – Title Studio – Changing Extruded Text to 2 Sided Plane stretches the text along the Y axis
- 1207 – Title Studio – Drop Shadow changes brightness of extrusions with opacity
- 1124 – Extruded Spline Material Layer stretches Pal video
- 1633 – Title Studio – Applying a particular preset called TypeonTitleCard from within the FX Browser will cause the effect to appear overly extruded. As a temporary workaround this preset can be loaded correctly using the normal preset load menu (i.e. without using the FX Browser).
- 706 + 1094 – BCC Motion Blur now includes an Advanced optical flow option which uses OpenCL hardware assisted rendering to implement a more sophisticated (and more computationally intensive) motion vector analysis. The performance of the Advance mode varies widely from one graphics card to another and if you see reduced performance or unexpected results when using the Advanced option it is recommended that you switch to the Simple mode on that card.
- 1671 – OpenGL filters (other than those in the 3D Objects category) may not render correctly when applied to 4k footage in Avid.
