I failed to find an explicit answer to this in the KB or forums (sorry if I didn't search carefully enough).
Due to chronic problems with background rendering (most likely background queue / jobs database is now corrupt), and since I want to give 8.5 a try (a couple of new features are appealing to me, just afraid of the extra load on my system), I feel I'm ready to clean re-install MC (but want to avoid OS reinstall level - even if I have some partition image around).
1) backup all current MC data & folders
2) deactivate licenses (MC & third-party sw)
3) uninstall MC & third-party sw
4) delete all MC data folders (and registry settings) EXCEPT media folder(s) AND project folder (Documents\Avid Projects)
5) install 8.5 etc.
Question: if I keep JUST media folders and project folders, will I be able to keep my existing projects (OK to loose renders etc.) AND start with a clean empty background jobs queue ? Should I clean up any MXF\_bg.x folder on the media drives in order to be 200% sure to get rid of any background job corruption ? If so, how ?
