Hello-
I have a multicam project that I'm ready to export. I really need more disk space. Because the final sequence was built from several sequences and I've done a lot of experimentation, made a lot of changes, and (out of ignorance I suppose) rendered just about every effect and transition multiple times, I'm sure my drive is bloated with unneeded .mxf files. Research has led me to believe precomputes can take up a lot of space, and, at this stage, many are unnecessary to keep.
If I use Media Tool and select All Drives, Current Project, and check ONLY the precomputes box, how can I know which ones are safe to delete? A sub-question: Is there something to the idea of using creation date and time of the file to see that it's no longer needed? (A single color correction effect could have a lot of files associated with it if all iterations were kept, for example. Deleting all but the files necessary for the final settings and render might create some space perhaps?)
[To possibly head some answers (or questions) off at the pass, so to speak: This article on using the Media Tool was very promising, but didn't work out for me: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/en238681 It was last updated in 2011, so maybe that's the problem. Regardless, it seems like a step is missing. if I follow the instructions, I end up with having everything selected.]
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
