DNxHQX vs DNxHR444

I am rendering quick times in After Effects, which is on the same computer as my Avid, and I have the option in After Effects of rendering at DNxHR444.  This is the highest available option in the DNx codec settings.

When I go to Avid, my import options cap out at DNxHQ 12 bit.

I hit 'import' and the Avid tells me that there is a settings mismatch between what I am trying to import (444) and my Media Creation settings (DNxHQ 12 bit).  Avid asks me if I wish to preserve the import resolution of 444.  If I say yes, I get a fast import (which is nice) or if I say no i get a regular lonnnnnngggggg import, and (I assume) transcode to DNxHR 12 bit.

I guess my question is: how do you unlock the 444 feature of the Avid?  And is this the better option over DNxHQ 12 bit? I have the DNxIO hardware.  Why do I get the option of rendering in 444 in After Effects but not in Avid?  There is no problem with my footage, it all looks glorious, I am looking at it in 4K right now, but I am just curious whats going on under the hood.

Any insight is appreciated!
