Why can't Media Composer see my Discreet GPU on Macbook Pro?

Hi guys, I'm looking for some help

I have a qualified macbook pro mid 2015 with the AMD Radeon R9 2GB discreet GPU. I'm running the latest MC v8.6.3

I get pretty poor playback on effects (in 4k admittedly) so looked at the settngs and apparently my GPU hardware is unsupported because it does not contain the minimum required amount of memory (2048). It appears that MC is only seeing the intel on-chip GPU (1536).

I dug a little deeper and under the hardware tab I see that MC thinks I'm running OS 10.9.6. I'm definitely not. I'm running 10.11.6

I've been through the process of a clean reinstal as per the Avid guidelines but the problem remains. Or maybe it's not a problem, maybe the details in the settings tab are just wrong? I dunno. I'd like to take advantage of the AMD card for playback of effects if possible.

I've attached some screenshots. If anyone has advice I'd love to hear it!
