Pro Video Academic Redemption Process

Reminder. Starting with Media Composer v8.0, Academic licenses no longer come with 4 years of free upgrades. So any Academic customer should be directed to this document. Each year they will need to renew their Avid Support $ Upgrade plan at $99 and be verified by Identi-e until they are no longer in school.
Video Academic Licensing Redemption Process
To begin: Students, Institutions and faculty who purchase a physical box license, will receive an Activation Card with a download code printed on it – which looks something like MCEDUxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxx
Go to https://my.avid.com/account and login and enter that download code in Avid Software Activation and Download. Doing this will add your Media Composer Academic license download to your Avid.com account at my.avid.com and provide you with further instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx…… ) to use at the Identit-e website. If you purchased the software from our Avid online store, your Media Composer Academic license download will be automatically added to you’re My Avid account at account.avid.com. You will still need to follow the instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx……) to use at the Identit-e website.
Then:
1. Download the Media Composer 8.x installer – again this can be found in you’re My Avid account at account.avid.com under "Product Not Yet Download".
2. In your account you will see an academic validation code, which is different than the code on the Activation Card with instructions to go to www.identit-e.com/avid
3. Go to www.identit-e.com/avid and enter this code on the page and provide your personal information that is requested. This will validate your current academic status.
4. Once your status is verified, Identit-E will email a new verified activation code to use at account.avid.com. You will need to login to your account, and activate the code provided. This will release the System ID, Activation ID, and all required 3rd party serial numbers for the additional software. The benefit is that this information will then always live within the My Account. The email verification can take up to three days to receive.
5. If you do NOT receive the email from Identi-e, please check your spam folder before contacting Avid.
6. Launch Media Composer 8.x and follow the prompts to activate the software using the System ID and Activation ID.
* For students who are eligible for complimentary upgrades when new software is released:
1. Go to http://www.avid.com/media-composer/upgrades Enter your system ID and Activation ID along with your name and email from your registration
2. If all is entered correctly and the license is registered and you are eligible, you will receive access to the upgrade.
Note: Maintenance updates such as 7.0.2, 8.5.3 etc. are obtained via the Download Center and are not available via the Academic free site. New versions such as 7.x, and 8.x should be obtained on the Academic free site.
