My support contract on my MC perpetual licence is nearly up (mid November) and I am wondering whether if I don't renew, Avid will still make available the current and last version release point updates? i.e. 8.4.?
I ask because I'm currently having issues with 8.4.2 (detailed elsewhere - namely Title Tool) and only 8.3.1 is fully stable for me, at the moment. I'm not having a lot of joy with support and I have only called upon it once before throughout the year, only to solve the issue myself. I just don't see currently a huge need for anything else in Avid MC, so long as it is working as advertised and I see a limited value in support contracts.
I do however feel Avid should deliver a fully working MC at the end of any yearly support contract. I accept new features should be paid for though. But at the moment unless I can get 8.4.2 working properly, it will mean I will be stuck on 8.3.1 if I don't renew.
I aslo feel that for perpetual licences the choice to renew should be extended, say if you don't renew this year you can next year, e.g. $598 (2 years), instead of having to buy a full new licence. Otherwise I'll move to subscription if anything essential is needed. Perhaps that's what Avid wants anyway?
