... because Microsloth, in their new-found Apple-like "wisdom" has made OS updates an "all or nothing" proposition. So now, I can't stop my system from updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers everytime I reboot. I tried uninstalling the driver from control panel, from the display card properties pane, driver tab with "delete software" option (Device Manager), disabling the card then doing the driver uninstall, and using the Windows Update Show-Hide utility to hide (i.e. don't do) NVIDIA driver updates.
Nothing works. I install the version from the Avid install package, and the very next boot, the OS comes right along and updates it to the latest version.
The problem is that MC hangs, turns the screen all black, and you can't get the desktop back if you run the latest drivers. (Have to hard reset since there is no visual UI on which to execute a restart!).
Essentially, because MC can't use the latest NVIDIA drivers, and MS has now decided that it will update all your third patry drivers whether you want them to or not, you are screwed out of your ability to edit unless you roll back to Windows 8.1.
WTF!?!?!
