Help with sound

$

I have captured a sequence with picture and sound from DVCam tape.  I can see the video, and the VU meter shows good audio, but I cannot hear the sound either through the computer speakers or headphones.  Then I ceate a sequence with both video and sound, save it, and still cannot hear sound.  I quit Media Composer, re-launch, and then I can hear sound from that seuence with no other changes. This has happened in the last 3 times I have captured from DVCam. Can someone tell me what is going on, and how can I solve it?

I am working on an iMac with MC Ultimate 20.4.0.55005, .

Thanks,

marluc

Hi,

Where is Marquee in Avid MC First 20.5 PC?

Avid 2019.12 MonPane::SetComposition(): Internal error occurred trying to load composition into the monitor.

Hi all,

We've got some a new season of a projcect currently cutting on Avid 2019.12 under High Sierra 10.13.16 that is trying to access graphics that were imported orignally on an Avid 2018 bay as DNxHRLB. When attempting to load the grpahics from the bin into the monitor, we get the following error:

MonPane::SetComposition(): Internal error occurred trying to load composition into the monitor. See console for more information.

This error occurs in Avid 2019.12 onwards (I tested a few of our Catalina bays on the betas of 2020 and get the same error).

However, this error does not occur on a bay running 2019.11.

Anyone have any thoughts? Console log below:

I'd like to uninstall MC First and instead install the 30-day trial of Media Composer. I did proper install of the trial version, I see Media Composer | Ultimate Trial in My Avid/My Products but not in Avid Link.

Continued Font Interface Issue

We continue to have problems with our system and font interfaces changing. This is small but important to days spent editing with crazy fonts that change randomly. We know how to set them it's just getting them to stay that way. Avid support requested we dump all but standard fonts. That's not a solution. Their interface software should stick!!!

Any better work arounds??

Segment mode Glitch in 2019? Or is it a new behaviour?

$

I often lasso clips in the Timeline. It puts me in Segment mode and I can move those clips.

With 2018 and before, I could have the yellow and the red mode (pre)activated in the Segment Tool selector on the Timeline, and so after lassoing a bunch of clips, I could decide if I wanted the red arrow or the yellow arrow by aiming at the top of the bottom of a selected clip in the Timeline (hard to explain with text, I know!).

With 2019, when I lasso clips, it just defaults to Red arrow mode. I added the arrow selector above the Timeline, and if I put it in Yellow or Red/Yellow mode before lassoing the clips, I always end up with selected clips in Red arrow mode. It's slightly annoying.

I mapped the Arrow modes to the keyboard, so I can hit Yellow once the clips are lassoed, and this way I'm back to the "old" behaviour I'm used to: chose an arrow mode by clicking on the top or bottom of one of the selected clips as I drag them. I'd love not to have to add the extra key press though.

2020.5 GUI not showing for track plug-ins

Had this intermittently over a number of versions, sometimes calling up a difffernt workspace will fix it, or going to a different plug-in location and back to the no-show. Mostly have to quit and restart app.

Sometimes just coming to write a post on this forum then going back is enough to fix it...

Also does anyone know how to reset the export default location - do I have to delete project state or similar? It's defaulting to the export location of a different project ATM

Advice about a Mac machine, tight budget

Hello everyone,

I'm just looking for advices, I need a new machine for media composer and unfortunately I'm forced on a Mac system.
I need a system that can handle transcode , exports, syncing, multicam (1080p files mostly dnxhd36).

I will do some light editing as well on small projects.

i was thinking about the Mac mini with the i7, for media composer is that bad not having a discrete gpu?

As far as I know most of media composer activities are handle by the cpu, and the 8th gen i7 is more than decent.

anyine has experience with the Mac mini?

Dongle Revisited

Hey folks,

I did a quick search but didn't find the answer I was looking for.  Hopefully someone has a quick one for me.

I started a new job this week and part of my onboarding was a new MacBook Pro.  I'll be splitting my time on that and my home system which still has USB ports for the dongle.  Obviously, the MacBook does not.  Yes, I can use the adapter but it's clunky.  Third World problem I know, but the OCD makes me twitch.  Anyway, in the old days of software activation you had to call or otherwise transfer a licenses between two machines if you only had one license.  Is this still the case?  Do the automatically phone home and if one machine is working the other will not?  How is this handled now?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

    • Bug Number: MCDEV-13067.(Media Composer v2020.4) After initially working fine after installation, you might have received an “Assertion” error on startup.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-13068. Production Management credentials were not being saved in the new Project Window when you closed Media Composer.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-13110. After closing a project, you could not create a new project in a different project location in the new Select Project window because the Create button was grayed out.

    • Bug Number: MCDEV-12984. Pre-LUT/Post-LUT color picker values were identical even though the viewer had a different color space.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-12907. You might have received an Assertion error when trying to create a 24p PAL project.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-113047. Shift + Render In-to-Out behaved differently when used twice.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-12955. (Titler+) CTRL-click to multi select did not work.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-12050. (Titler+) Promoted titles might have been in the wrong position.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-13011. Right clicking on a group of selected clips in a bin caused clips to be deselected.

    • Bug Number: MCDEV-12766. (macOS) In some instances, performing Capture produced files 1000x larger than the media in the file.
    • Bug Number: MCDEV-13029. You might have received a Fatal Assertion error when saving Media Creation Setting (as a Site Setting).
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3227.Media Creation Settings were not retained when added to Site Settings.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3427. In some instances, even if the minimum threshold was set in Transfer Settings, when sending to playback, the warning did not appear if the Timeline contained a proxy resolution.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3578. In some instances, adding or removing a Timewarp effect with Adaptive Deinterlace Source enabled, moved the image one frame and broke sync between video track and audio tracks.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3466. (macOS) You might have experienced random sluggishness & beach balls when opening projects or bins.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3419. If Dupe Detection was enabled, you might have received an “Exception: CORE_SEGMENT_NOT_FOUND” error when moving the audio clip to another audio track using the Segment tool.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3577. You might have seen Timeline changes and the audio might not have been correct after performing a batch re-import or relink of the audio.
    • Bug Number: MCCET-3589. (Media Composer Video Satellite) If the Timeline crossed midnight (00:00:00;00) playback would not start if the playhead was beyond halfway between 00:00:00;00 and the end of the sequence.

can I edit doc (for web) using 720p proxy files—and skip the huge 4K files?)

    Hi there,

I've been asked to edit a project for which 170 interviews (totalling more than 200 hours) were shot on a small camera that simultanesously recorded both 4K and 720p HD (H264, 8.79 Mbps) files.

The doc I've been asked to help with is destined for web broadcast only, I'm told, so the producer has suggested I use the small 720p files only... and not worry about the 4K files. This would make life much easier for me, because my old 2010 Mac Pro isn't up to 4K editing.

Is this the right plan, would people say? One of my worries is that someone might change his/her mind later, and want a 4K version.

I could get a new Mac Mini, that I think would allow me to work with 4K files, but unless the process of 'rezzing up' is a pretty straightforward one I'm afraid of getting in over my head (I'm not technically gifted). Fifteen years ago, when I worked at a big broadcasting corporation, the editor would simply pop in the Sony betacam tapes we'd shot, and Avid would select just the right clips, and bit by bit the whole item was up-rezzed. But I'm not sure it would be that easy for me, here in my home office.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards, Malcolm

    Phonetic Indexer hanging

I've had a problem on 2018.10 where I can't eject a media drive (once avid has quit) because macOS says an application is still using it. It seems that the process that is still using the drive is Avid Phonetic Indexer and it's usually red in the Activity Monitor. I can quit the process there and the drive ejects. But something is causing the phonetic indexer to get stuck. Is it suppsed to stop running when I quit avid? Could there be something that got corrupted in the phonetic index on that drive that is causing the problem? Looking for troubleshooting advice. For the record I have only used this particular drive with 2018.10 and no previous versions so this isn't necessarily a 2018.10 issue. I was running 2018.5 before this.

Anyone seeing " Range specified for Dup is outside range of component" error message caused by Continnum BCC transitions when exporting?

I've also been trying to figure out the new Export settings and getting weird error messages.  Trying to figure out the fastest way to export to Sorensen without QT Ref.  Anyone find anything good?

    Thanks.
