Two Issues with Capella Integration

Hello,

I am a Capella support engineer looking for some help with two customers facing some issues with the Capella and AVID integration. I have added links to packages with sources, outputs, and projects to help reproduce the issues.

One of our customers is having a problem, when importing a AAF file created by our product Cambria FileConvert into AVID Media Composer, in the Media Tool.

They did the following:

Customer just drag&dropped two AAF files to the bin. One of the AAF files which is from another provider links automatically to the project name (AAFafterPatch_WORKINGFILE.AAFF), however

the file created from Cambria FileConvert (Five minute sync test_FTCOut_Not_Working.aaf) leaves the project name as blank and does not link it to the specific project. (Screenshot in the folder)

We are wondering why this may be happening, how does the project read the imported file to link it to the project name. Does it check for some metadata?

We are using AMT 3.12, which is also referred to as mediaprocessor 4.4.28.

A customer is facing an issue where when they are using our Cambria FileConvert application to create an AVID mediasource and check into interplay, they cannot edit the file on AVID Newscutter as it is growing. We currently do not have Newscutter and cannot properly test. 

I have included in the folder a trial version for Cambria FileConvert and the Capella project that they used for this case. There is a readme in that package with instructions on how to install Cambria FileConvert and how to use the project to try to reproduce the issue.

On 2020.6, an annoying glitch: when attempting to alter export settings, after hitting 'save' the export dialogue box changes the active setting to the one above?

Anyone else getting that?

Docked panels stuck in 2020.6

After updating to MC 2020.6, my custom dual-screen UI panel layout gets "stuck" in unusable positions every time I restart the software. Some panels appear to be partially hidden behind other panels even though none are floating, and I am not even able to select them to change them to floating mode (see the screen grab below and the TC window in the lower right).

I tried creating a new user setting but get the same problem.

Ideas?

Reordering clips in a Group Clip for multicam

Is there a way of reordering the clips in group clip when doing multicam editing? I do most of my interview edits through multicam with the visuals coming two or three cameras and the audio coming from a seperate audio recorder.

Process as follows:

1) Import all media. Select all clips, Autosync with Group Clip selected (making sure the Zoom audio track is at the top of the pile) sync using waveform analysis.

2) Edit multicam mode into sequence using quad display

Once I've made a group clip, is there any way or changing the order of clips, or even replacing individual clips in that group?

new MacBook Pro 16": Q: 32GB RAM enough? Q: which ext. hd for editing?

Hi there,

I've given up trying to pull my 2010 Mac Pro, and/or 2013 MacBook Pro, kicking and screaming, into this new 4K world. Firewire and USB-2 ports just aren't up to it.

In case it matters, btw, I'm running Media Composer v. 8.9.4

So... if I get a new MacBook Pro*, I'm wondering about a couple of things:

1. is 32GB enough RAM, or should I get 64GB? One problem with these MacBook Pros is that they're not user-configurable after purchase. I'll be editing 4K, but I'm hoping to transcode to DNxHR LB first. I'll be using FrameFlex as well, I hope, to re-frame some of the shots.

2. All the camera files that I've been given are 4K, and they're on a 10TB USB 3.1 hard drive. I've recently looked at an Avid conversion chart, and see that the "compression rate for DNxHR LB" is 22:1.   I think that means that I won't need a 10TB drive to store my transcoded files on. In fact, if my math is right, I should be able to store them on a 1TB drive (or even smaller). Is my math right? Or am I missing something?

The internal drive in a new MacBook Pro is a 1TB SSD. I could get a bigger SSD drive, but I don't ever store much on my internal hard drive which, because it's my boot drive, I leave out of the Avid drive list**. So I'll need an external drive—is a Thunderbolt-3 the best kind to get?

* the reason I'm not going for a Mac Pro is the exhorbitant cost (I'm almost retired) and the reason I'm not going for a Mac Mini is because the cost savings become less attractive once I factor in the cost of an external GPU (which, according to a thread I read on this site, I'm not even sure Avid would recognize), and I'm not sure I'll have much use for a Mac Mini after this next big editing job, whereas a MacBook Pro will be very versatile for me for years to come, even if all I'm doing is writing and emailing.

**or... does Avid work better if you've got a bigger SSD boot drive?

I successfully installed Media Composer 2020.6 over 2020.5.

 

In my Avid Link / Products Avid Link 2020.4 says “2020.4 installed”, “Update” is highlighted. When I try to update, a message appears “Download Error, Update URL is wrong”.

we have some drone media that I cant link or import. (MC 8.8.4)

DJI_0001.MOV

VLC says this:

Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)

Resolution: 1920x1090

Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV

Edit1:

Console says:

The FOURCC video code of avc1 is not natively supported.

Edit2: got it "work" on a Mac. But even on the mac this console message appear...

But the ppl who have this problems have only PC's, so it would be nice if it coult work without a mac..

MC 2020.6 inconsistent behavior of the Smart Tool settings

When the Smart Tool is toggled off and I lassoing clips in the timeline, the selection of using Trim Type in the Smart Tool  is cleared and I have to reselect using the Trim Type after toggle the Smart Tool on. Very annoying!

Audio Clip Levels Wrong on Rendered Audio Clips

Anyone else seeing this?

On 2020.5 and 2020.6 I am experiencing a problematic issue with clip levels and rendered audio clips.

For instance, I add a piece of sound to a sequence, adjust the CLIP level to -20dB, add an EQ effect to take off the low end (50Hz slider all the way down).

As long as the EQ is not rendered, all is fine, but as soon as you render the EQ effect, it appears that the clip level is applied twice, and the resulting playback level is -40dB in stead of -20.

This does not happen on 2020.4, but does happen on 2020.5 and 2020.6.

This also happens with AudioSuite effects.

This is quite an issue, as it is impossible to revise older projects, as a rerender of any audio effects will completely change the mix.

 

MC 2020.5 and 2020.6, Win 10 Prof, z840 dual E5-2640v4, 64GB RAM, ISIS media storage (project is running on a local drive).

 

Hope this can be addressed soon, as it is quite a serious bug without any usable workarounds, and a recipe for disaster in specific workflows.

OpenIO_NDI vs DX Nitris

Hello,

 

I have a case that I want to stream using Open IO NDI video from Media Composer to someone on my local network in another room.

 

But, unfortunately, the option become available only when I turn off my DX Nitrs from the Device Manager.

While i do it by button HW/SW Enable/Disable there is no NDI option. 

 

Is there any way to do some ready present in the settings in MC so that the turn off DX does not have to restart the entire computer?

Designate a default import audio source

Can I designate a (source location) for the import audio path in pro tools windows? The default that appears in the popup always takes me to another drive and I have to navigate back to where my audio and loops are stored. Windows7, Protools 8.0.5

Buying a nonexistent ASC

I bought an ASC a short time ago. The email confirmation of the purchase 7/8/2020 Support 7847496Webstore Order USD 32.46 Had no ASC Code in email, When I requested sending the code so I could enter in on the phone, when trying to speak live tech support, the purchased ASC wasn't anywhere in the Avid Support Code (ASC) documents. The last ASC entry was 727669458 which expired on 3/14/20. I'll have to put a stop on this charge since I can't reach anyone and my Sibelius Ultimate won't activate on my new computer. I deactivated one previous license so I could activate on new iMac. Constantly get 101 error, device count exceeded. This is very frustrating as I've spent two days trying to be able communicate the 2 problems (ASC purchase and Activation failures). Avid needs to be more accessible to their customers. A very arrogant, inaccessible company. I don't even expect this email to be answered.

MC7 AAF issue - AMA clip is multi essence ??

hey all,

I'm in a 23.98 project trying to export an embedded AAF for mix.  getting "(sequence name) is an AMA clip in a multi-essence file that canoot be exported using the specified "Embedded in AAF" setting. export is cancelled.

anyone know anything about this?  I was able to get around it by consolidating (because transcode failed too!) and checking the options to convert all audio to 48k / 24bit / pcm. and then it actually worked, but that's a step I feel I shouldnt have to do.. I've made AAFs from AMA timelines before (I do have the aaf protocol option checked on aaf export setting as well)

How do people use MC2019 with dual monitors / seeing desktop at same time?

im a long time user and have just spent some time with the new version (2019.7). I use dual monitors and need to see the desktop while using avid (like 2018). If the new way forces us to completely cover the desktop, how do people switch back and forth between avid and desktop, and other applications?

Longtime Avid/Mac user here, starting to mess with the new version for the first time, and it's clear that I have a lot to learn, starting with just how to wrangle windows, deal with the full screen gray that covers my monitor, etc. What's the best tutorial or other way of quickly getting up to speed?

Avid Link stuck on "syncing"

I am trying to deactivate my avid in Avid Link and it is now stuck on syncing.  My avid is now deactivated and I cannot reactivate.  Any suggestions?

I am running Avid Link version 20.6.0 and avid version 2018.12.6 on a 2017 imac running on High Sierra.

limit search in phrase find

I find when using phrase find sometimes i'd like it to only look in one clip or multigroup. It would be great if you could say to only search what is loaded in the source monitor.
