Can anybody here please help me with Avid learning? I have been unable to test because there is no "learning module" showing up on my master account. I traveled to San Diego to take the cert tests, and had to return to Vegas unable to take the exam. Avid Learning has been no help in the mater! I have withdrawn from Pro Tools 201, 210 and The Media Composer 101 and 210 because of this.

Avid Media Composer 8.8.5 and macOS Sierra 10.12.6
Hello everyone!
I have Media Composer 8.8.5 and I'll need to upgrade to macOS Sierra.
The documentation says that this version of Media Composer is compatible with 10.12.5. Unfortunately, the only version I was able to get from Apple was 10.12.6.
Has anyone used Media Composer 8.8.5 with macOS 10.12.6? Are they compatible, or will I have to install version 10.12.5, instead?
Thank you in advance.
Trim Mode becomes stuck
Hey there,
we have recently upgraded one of our editing suites with Avid 2018.7. However, our editor is experiencing the following issue: when using the trim tool sometimes the tool becomes stuck and continues trimming until the end of the clip/labroll. When this happens nothing can be done to stop/interrupt the trimming, avid becomes completely stuck. Has this happened to anyone?
The specs are: 353.82-quadro-grid-desktop-notebook-win10-64bit-international.
Thank you,
Kes
Crashing when importing media
Hi,
I try to import MOVs. But the MC 2018.8.0 crashes after a few minutes. I have updated the profile, restarted and all the common rest.
Anyone out there with the same issue and a solution?
Thanks for help.
AMA Linked Prores 444 Export Issues
I'm doing same as source exports of AMA linked sequences with effects for online.
I've run about a million tests using MediaInfo as my double-check.
If I export an AMA linked sequence Same as Source without any effects, it'll render out at Prores 444 and Mediainfo confirms that the output is 444.
If I export and AMA linked sequence with even 1 effect - a resize let's say - the output is the Prores 444 codec, but MediaInfo reports that it is actually operating in 4:2:2 space.
My sequence is 3.2k, RGB709. The Media Creation Setting is set to 16bit rendering. The default render codec across the board is Prores444.
The only setting I can think of that could fix the issues is Format -> Maximum Bit Depth Output, which is greyed out and set to 10... Anyone know how to either enable this setting or export a sequence at truly 444 color space?
All the other methods I've used have had issues as well. MXF OP1a, Avid Media Encode, Timeline mixdown...
Same as source is most promising because it gives me the output I expect, but not if any effect is involved.
Thanks for any advice.
AMA Plug-in Error
I am trying to open a sequence I created a few years ago and keep getting this error whenever I try to play it:
"Exception: Failed to get sample position from the AMA plug-in"
When I originally created the sequence, I consolidated the shots to DNxHD and deleted the AMA version of the clips. I can Match Frame to the shots and they are there--I can play them and cut them in to a new sequence. I have checked every bin in the project and there no AMA linked clips.
Error Initialising bin Indexer Unable to set root path: /
I have recently updated MC (after uninstalling everything and restarting), then installed new version and every project I open has this error message: Error Initialising bin Indexer Unable to set root path: /
Is this a drive permissions issue? It doesn't affect my other computer at all (running the same version of the software).
Running El Capitan and was on 8.5, but tried installing 2018.9 and 8.9 and both have same message, so it seems as though it's the Mac blocking something rather than MC?
Any suggestions welcome!
What is the best export setting in Avid Media Composer for uploading the video on YouTube ?
Hi Avid Experts,
I have I have a film that is 12GB in size. the video quality looks great when I play it on my system. But when I upload it on YouTube, the quality does not look good even though it is playing with 1080p HD quality.
I am trying to figure out if I have to select any particular setting for YouTube uploads.
The settings I have used are below:
Compression Type: Avid DNxHD Codec
Resolutions: 1080p/23.976
Aspect ratio: Native (1920X1080)
I do not want to compromise on the video quality and I need assitance with the best encoding possible.
Focusrite Clarett 2pre doesn‘t work as audio input
Hi guys,
is there any way to use my Focusrite Clarett 2pre thunderbolt audio interface for voice recordings with the punch in tool in MC 2018.09?
My i/o hardware is Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K which performs nice, but I can‘t use it within punch in tool.
So I bought a Clarett 2pre and it‘s working like a charm except in media composer.
In the audio settings the device doesn‘t show up
I‘m working with an iMac 5K (2017), macOS Sierra and Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K.
Any ideas?
thanks, Ben
Renaming tracks in the timeline
This is probably an easy one, but how can I get rid of the V1, A1, A2, when renaming tracks in the timeline? I only want to see the text that I'm putting in. Please take a look at the example below.
In some older YouTube videos I don't see this default track naming added to the replaced ones.
I've searched in the Avid user guide and over here in this forum, but couldn't find the answer. It is right clicking on the preffered track, choose Rename Track, right? Any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advanced!

Avid Application Manager Files In Use
Every time I try to update the Application Manager, it tells me that NVIDIA GeForce Overlay is using files that need to be updated by the setup. NVIDIA GeForce Overlay doesn't show up on my taskbar, in Windows Explorer when I search for it, or anywhere in the Task Manager. I cannot find the active process of it, so I can't close it. When I tried Googling it, all I could find was how to toggle/untoggle the visibility of the overlay while playing games and other irrelevant stuff. Nothing on how to shut it down. If I click Ignore on the setup, the update will fail to complete. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Sorenson Squeeze and Avid - Statement
Everyone....
We have learned recently along with you folks that Sorenson has stopped selling Sorenson Squeeze.
As many of you know, the Sorenson Website states:
“We are no longer accepting orders for our Squeeze products and all Squeeze services will be disabled as of September 1, 2018”.
Avid product team is working to figure out what next steps we need to take with Media Composer and Sorenson Squeeze and I will get back to you in the coming weeks with information once they sort it all out.

Autosequence by AUX timecode
Please add ability to select AUX timecode to build autosequence.
I'm using audio timecode for syncing field cameras. (they have no TC in - only audio) I have 7 cams and they switch on/off randomly. I don't need a multicamera multigroup, because field cams have 1-10 frames random drift, so i can not then adjust my multigroup.
So - i need a simpe timeline-camera-time-map to edit.
I extracted audio tc from my clips
But now autosequence have only option to build a sequence using clip TC
that's the problem.
PLEASE add AUX timecode option to Autosequence.

- Bug Number: MCCET-2533. Intermittently, you might have received an “Exception Failed to find coincidence point on tape” error when trying to capture or batch capture into Media Composer.
- Bug Number: MCCET-2548. Finding a frame by entering timecode value in the Source monitor did not work when searching on an audio mixdown.

- Bug Number: MCCET-2585. After installing the editing application and creating a new project, you might have received an “assertion” error when opening the Tool Palette on the Source/Record Monitor.

Limitations in 2018.9: The following are limitations with the 2018.9 application.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9781. You might see the following issues if Run Length Encoded is enabled:
• “Core Consistency Check Failure” errors when recreating animated Marquee titles
• Media size might not be accurate when working with interlaced projects
- Workaround: Disable Run Length Encoded (RLE) in the Import Settings Image tab.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9676. Intermittently, the blue bar in the Source and Record monitors does not move. The blue bar does move in the Timeline. Workaround: Restart the editing application.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9523. When linking with the Avid Generic Plug-in, audio waveforms do not build properly in the Timeline when playing back an H.264 movie with AAC audio.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9460. Windows 7 systems with Nvidia Maxwell or Nvidia Pascal cards might experience playback issues that could result in “Play Consumer timeout” errors. Workaround: Select “Disable GPU Effects” in the Render Settings dialog box.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9142. You might experience hangs or crashes when performing a video mixdown with a 16K project on systems with less than 64GB RAM.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9329. (Avid Artist DNxIV and DNxIQ) When playing back immediately captured media, the video might freeze after approximately one second but the audio continues. You might need to restart the editing application.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9269. (Media Composer | Cloud) After performing a remote download operation on a sequence containing AVC-I 100 remote media, the downloaded media appears as XAVC-I 100. Workaround: Download the entire master clips.
- Bug Number: (Mac). You may occasionally see the menu bar flash followed by a brief beach ball. To fix this, deactivate “Displays have separate spaces” under System Preferences > Mission Control settings.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-9011. Intermittently, when working with the XDCAM Nablet Plug-in, you might see “Failed to get the sample position from the AMA Plug-in” errors if you have waveforms enabled in the Timeline.
- Bug Number: COGS-2560. While working in the Script Window, text operations (cut/copy/paste/delete/editing) can only be done in edit mode. See “Editing a Script” in the Help.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5650. When working with Panasonic LongG media, you might receive an “SFPlayConsumer Timeout” error if audio waveforms are enabled. Workaround:Turn off audio waveforms.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5385. MultiCam editing with Panasonic LongG media is not supported with this release.
- Bug Number: MCDEV-5384. Currently, when working with LongG media, you might see dropped frames when editing 4 streams. This might occur when playing from a single stream to multiple streams (and from multiple streams back to a single stream). The dropped frames usually display around the edit point (transition to a different stream).
A few important reminders:
- Manual approval of loading Kernel Extensions (KEXTs): With the release of Mac OS v10.13.x (High Sierra), Apple requires manual approval of loading Kernel Extensions (KEXTs). (For example: Avid Nitris DX, BlackMagic, and AJA IO devices install Kernel Extensions.) At installation time, you should get a dialog saying that the KEXT was not loaded. You must go the “Security & Privacy” system preference and manually approve the KEXT. Keep the Security & Privacy pane open after you install the I/O device drivers so that you will see the notice that the driver has been blocked and press the “allow” button within 30 minutes of installing or the driver will be permanently blocked.
- Avid DX Driver Separate Installer: The Avid DX Driver is not automatically installed when you install the editing application. If you need to install the Avid DX Driver to work with your Avid IO device, you can install it separately. Note: For Windows systems, there is a Win7 driver and a Win10 driver in the Utilities folder. The Win7 driver works for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems. The installer is located:
• (Mac) /Applications/Utilities/Avid Utilities
• (Windows) Program Files\Avid\Utilities\DXDrivers
- Application Installers: Previously, a separate installer was required for Media Composer | First. With this release, you have a single installer for Media Composer and Media Composer | First. Note: The option to run as Media Composer | First is now include in the Avid Media Composer Activation window.
New Computers Qualified: The following have been added to the Knowledge Base.
- Mac Book Pro 13” and 15” quad and 6 core i7/i9 (MC 2018.8 required)
- HP Zbook 15”, 17”, Studio, Studio XPS and “V” model laptops

2018.7 title tool wont save
Had it happen a couple of times last week, but a restart of MC fixed it, but today across both suites that 2018.7 is installed, we cannot save a title at all. Have rebooted too.
Open Title tool, create title, goto save, pop up dialog shows, type name, click save, it goes back to title tool and nothing is saved in the bin.
Same for save and save as.
Is there a title tool config to reset anywhere?
Dual Monitor Problem
Hi!
I hope somebody can help me.
I have Dual Monitor Setup, Avid MC 7 (Windows 10 64bit)
Dual Monitor Setup:
Laptop (1980 x 1920)
Second Monitor (1980 x 1920)
My second monitor is above the laptop.(in real life and in display settings too) And i think this cause the problem.
this message is pop up:"A minimum screen height of 768 pixels is required"
Works fine if the screens arenot top of each other, but side by side..
But if somebody know a workaround, i will be the happiest boy in the world:D
Changing Attic setting deletes all items in attic?
Hello everyone. I'm working on a job right now that is pretty complex. We keep our files on a nexus. The other day our apprentice, who had recently switched to a new computer, got a notice about the attic filling up. I had him go in and change the number of files in the attic from 1000 to 2000 (with a max of 100 for a single bin) to match myself and the second AE.
A few days later I went into the attic for something to find that everything up until a few days ago was gone from the attic.
I have not yet had a chance to look at everything in depth, but we do have a backup of our project drive from 9/26 which I could always use the attic from to restore everything except for the first few weeks from October.
What I find most odd is that this attic on the backup is 32GB, yet only 20something GB remain on our main project drive. if I wanted to drag it all over, it wouldn't even fit. How can this be? Here are my questions
1) When one person changes their attic settings, will the entire attic always start over from scratch?
2) Is it possible that while the attic files have disappeared from our Nexus, they are still taking up space? This is the only way I can reconcile in my brain that 32GB worth of attic have been deleted, and yet we only have 20GB of remaining space.
thank you for any help. I do not know off the top of my head the exact version of Avid that we are using. I think it may be 8.8 or somewhere around there. I could check when I am back in the office if it will help.
Background vs Foreground render
Just did a test with rendering Arri Alexa LogC footage from AMA into DNxHR LB footage.
AMA Linked clip
Looks correct, matches other cameras from same shoot.
Colour Space: YCbCr Arri ALEXA LogC [video levels]
Color Tranformation: Levels scaling (video levels)
Transcode settings:
Maintain source frame rate.
Apply colour transformations box is checked
Background render
resulting clip appears as flat as if no LUT or Color transform is applied. (milky, washed out)
Colour Space: YCbCr REC709 [video levels]
Color Tranformation: - blank-
Foreground render
resulting clip appears the same as AMA linked clip. (Proper color, matches other cameras)
Colour Space: YCbCr REC709 [video levels]
Color Tranformation: - blank-
So the same clip transcoded with exactly the same settings produces different results with background or foreground rendering.
