Marianna out of the office 8/28/19 thru 9/6/19

I am out of the office starting 8/28/19 through 9/4/19 and will NOT be available via email during this time nor will I be on the community forums or social media.  I will also be at Avid corporate from 9/4/19 - 9/6/19 in onsite meetings so I will start answering emails, PM's and forum posts in the order received when I get back on Monday 9/9/19.

Bins opening half off screen MC 8.6.5 Need Help!

I just upgraded to MC 8.6.5

 

I have a Imac 27 inch as my main monitor and an asus 24 inch as my second display. 

 

I just had this running for the last year with no issues. 

 

Now some of my bins open half off screen and I cant get ot them. 

 

Ive tried every combo of resolution possible and every screen arrngement and nothing is working. 

 

Anyone have a setup like this ? I swear this was working fine this morning in 8.6.3 .

display problems: tool/bin windows partially off-screen. Fix?

Hi there,

I've got three displays.  My biggest one is to the right of the other two (which are one above the other)—it's on this big one that I have my source-record windows, including key tools like the timecode window tool.  

Since updating to 7.0.3 this timecode window tool appeared mostly off-screen, at the very top of my main display. Unfortunately, you can only drag a window to another position if you can grab the top of it, which in this case, I can't do.  The top is off-screen.

I've seen this happen before and I've fixed it by choosing 'Displays' in Apple System Preferences, and then 'Arrangement', and then dragging my main display on the right so that it's under the one on the left.  The top of the Timecode window tool then appears at the bottom of the display on the left, and I can drag the whole tool to where I want it to go.  I then 're-arrange' my displays and go back to work.

But now, even when I do this, the missing top-half of the Timecode window is still missing.  I really don't understand this.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

trying to activate Media Composer - Product name is not defined

I'm attempting to activate Avid Media Composer.

I had the trial version (8.9.0) working a couple of years ago (on Mac OS Yosemite) and have now bought a license (for the same computer).

 

every time I try online activation, it fails, and i get a warning:

Activation failed: - Product name is not defined

-Feature name is not defined

-Product Version is not defined

 

when i try an offline activation, that too fails with a simpler warning:

Activation failed: - Product name is not defined.

 

ive searched the forum but not found anything relating to MC.

any help would be aprreciated!

AMC first installation and publish problems since 2019.6

hello everyone,

I am using AMC first since release and never had gamebreaking troubles while using it (some little ones here and there). since the 2019.6 update with the new interface I got stuck a lot more when I tried to import stills and logos for the credits.

so I tried to reinstall it on my mac and the iOs ontop and my finder freezed everytime the dmg opened.

I tried to install an older version (must be 2018.6-ish) on my windows laptop aswell (worse specs than my mac) and could continue working on my project - but the publishing process crashes/freezes the application wothout any error massage.

last try was to install the newest version (2019.7?) via bootcamp on the same mac described before just to seee if I can install it: and it works like a a charm, but has the same publishing troubles as the older version on my windows before.

I know my specs are not recommded especially the i5.

 

so here are my few questions:

- it worked berfore and I published a lot of material in the last years, why isnt it working anymore?

- why is my finder freezing by just opening a dmg?

- is it possible to get an older version for mac (something from the beginning of 2019) so I can continue with my older projects?

- if not, will it work again when I upgrade my processor (i7) and add some RAM?

A bug? Some users cant click/scroll/close open bins

Its like that the bin you see, is not there, so when you try to move it nothing happens.

 

On one client this was resolved by upgrading to 2018.11, but now I have 2 clients that had that version, and I upgraded to 2018.12.1, but the problem is still there...

anyonye who have had this problem?

HW: z240, 4.2 ghz, 32 gb RAM Intel HD graphics

2019.7 - When trying to adjust audio keyframe - Assertion Failed *hintLen > 0 File:Snaoshots.relengmini7... ERROR

This has just started.

 

Imported music track in timeline with add edits, to the right of the add edit I get this error when trying to adjust a keyframe, to the left of the add edit i can adjust as normal. I tried deleting the master clip and reimporting but still the same problem. I shut down the Avid and restarted, same problem.

Need 4K storage suggestions Windows users

I am about to start my first 4K project  and one of my hard drive crash on raid 0 system. I was able to get older projects off of it "lucky" Media was backup anyway. So I began Transcode my 4K footage from my Drobo to my 500GB SSD media drive DNXHR SQ and the driver wasn't big enough. I have order a 1TB SSD but if change my RockStor to a Raid 5 will it be fast enough for 4K? I would like to here from others here or suggestions what you use as a media drive for 4K DNXHR.

OS Windows 10
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.70 GHz
Memory 32 gb
Hard drives
C: SSD OS and Programs
E: Media SSD 500GB
F: 2 TB Documents and other programs
G: Drobo 6TB photos and videos
H: SSD 500 gb Cache drive
I: RocketStor Raid 0 1x4 TB (Crashed)

Cannot create AMA sample mapper to play this clip

Turned on computer. Opened Avid. got this when trying to play a sequence. I can scan the sequence and go anywhere on the timeline and park the cursor and see the clip. But if I plsy, I get this message and crash.

Other sequences play fine.

I tried re-building AMA management. Did not work.

 

Any other dieas?

Audio will not export with a sequence

Using imacs and MC2019.7 and audio works fine in preview and program but when sequence is exported to desktop audio doesn't play.  Export set to QTmovie and audio and video selected.  These were just installed and I know it's a setting, but having trouble finding it?

MC 2019.6 Jumping to timecodes in source/timeline monitors

We recently upgraded to MC 2019.6 and one problem we've come across is the incredible lag between entering a timecode in the source or timeline monitors and the application responding by going to that timecode. The delay can be up to 20 seconds, and during a screening with a client who wants to jump to specific spots in their show, this can be incredibly aggravating to have to wait each time. 

I've searched across the internet and I haven't found any mention of this problem by anyone else, but I can't possibly be the first to have noticed? At any rate, I'm posting here to bring it to light and say "hey, this is super annoying and it's keeping some of our editors from moving from 2018.x!"

Getting tired of resetting workspaces

I'm REALLY sick of losing my custom workspaces in 2019.7.  I'm talking about EDIT/COLOR/EFFECTS workspaces that I customize and SAVE.  Everything is peachy for a couple of days, then they are gone.  I've even dragged them into Site Settings and those are gone, too.

It's bad enough that we only have a choice now of a white or dark Interface, but can we at least not lose the things we have taken time to customize?

Avid Link Stuck on Initializing

Have downloaded most recent version of MC|First (19.6.0) and have installed it on a fresh install of High Sierra on a MacBook Pro. Upon opening Avid Link, attempting to sign in produces a spinnning circle with "initializing" as the text. After about a minute, Avid Link relaunches and begins the process again.

So far, I've attempted to uninstall and reinstall Avid Link separately. There are no firewalls and the option for Anonymous Data Collection is unchecked in the Preferences. 

Next steps? I see someone may have had a similar issue in the forum, and no solution was made public.

Tabbed List TC vs File29

Hi there,

I am using the Tabbed List output in list tool so I can import the source TC data of a sequence into an excel sheet.

Previously when I have used File29 (not for excel import) the start and end source TC is displayed but when I choose the Tabbed List format the source TC is not displayed. Within the Tabbed List format there are the following options: Assemble, Optical, Dupe and Scan - none of which I totally understand but I am going with Assemble and choosing the Start TC option so the source TC info of my clips is displayed. What I am noticing though is that the end source TC of my clips is 1 frame shorter than the end source TC of my clips when I choose File29, can someone explain why this is? And, is choosing Start TC the correct option for displaying the source TC of my clips when using TabbedD format?

2018.12 bugs?

First one is an old one. AMA linking of a file that is deep within a folder structure results in a name of "/" - I suspect related to characters used in folder naming -  fixed by copying source file name from the bin column to the name column.

Second one relates to export settings. The drop down list seems to be one off - i.e. I have to select the setting below the one I want to get the correct export settings. (Haven't tried creating new user settings yet)

bug? - Quick Search behaviour in MC 2019.7

In MC 2019.7 (MacOSX 10.13.6), when I do a quick search in a large bin. Let’s say I type ‘99DF’ in the upper right corner of the Bin, because I want to find clip 'AnyClipName_99DF’, then AVID MC does find the clip as expected: All other clips are hidden. And that’s fine.
BUT: SOMETIMES (!) When I clear the entry in the quick search field, I’d expect to see all other clips again. But that’s not working. The found clip stays as the only clip in the Bin. There’s no way I can see the other clips anymore.
The only way I can ‘UNDO’ the search is close the bin and reopen it, which defeats the whole point of a ‘QUICK’ search.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I can't find what makes this behaviour happen. Because sometimes it works as expected. And sometimes it doesn't.
Anyone experiencing this?

2019.7 Sleep and Core Audio Error

Media Composer 2019.7

Error 1

"This Mac is configured to sleep when idle, which may result in reduced performance". It mentions to set sleep when inactive to never.

I already have sleep set to never.

Error 2

Media Composer core audio steam id error"

Loadfing any proejct or new project. I tried with the inbuilt system sound and Focusrite USB Audio Interface?

Error 3

Source monitor or timeline, I use mark in and out on the keyboard and this stops playback.
