Customize marker colors

Can you create the option to customize marker colors using the color palette? Just like you can do by pressing alt on clip color to pull up more options for color coding. It would be helpful to have more color options when marking up dialogue on a scene with an ensemble cast and I'd like to assign specific customized colors for each actor beyond the default marker colors.  Thanks!

 


Applying a colour template to multiple tracks

A tricky one here.

I cut a feature with 4 different video layers.

I opened colour correction and made some adjustments to make the colours pop. I saved it as a template to my bin. I highlighted all the tracks and then t'd up all my video tracks so they were highlighted. I double clicked my CC template in my bin to apply the colour to all the video.

It did apply it to all the video, but for some reason all my footage on V2 moved back about a second.

 

My sync lock was turned on.

 

I tried doing it with my audio not highlighted as well

 

Same thing kept happening.

 

If I applied them one at it worked, but not when highlighting all and double clicking the template. Took me forever to apply each one individually.

 

Anyone ever come across this before?

 

Avid background services do not work...

Hi all,

 

Is anyone successfully using avid background services for transcoding/rendering timeline? I've never ever ever been able to get it to work on any of my systems, or at my colleges' qualified systems.

Background services in the tray show two red arrows, Avid background service status in MC shows a red dot, and the background queue is stuck on processing.

 

Any ideas?

Quicktime Reference Replacement Workflow

Greetings.  Got 2020.4 loaded.  Quicktime Reference Export is no longer an option.  I have not found any Avid literature that offers a replacement solution.  I liked the very fast QT Ref export, then Encoding in Sorenson.  What is every's workflow now?

Only thing it will let me Output from within Avid is Fast Export Quicktime....

Prores RAW support vs Canon Raw & XAVC SI

Hi! 

we are working with a DP considering to shoot two types of mirrorless cameras for his next shoot: Canon R5 and Sony A1.  

he is asking us which flavor of footage we can fully support during the editing process and I have to say I have no clue as I didn't work with these before.

His options are 8K Canon RAW, Sony's Xavc s-i and/or ProRes RAW recorder from an Atomos recorder. 

I know Atomos can deliver proper DNxHD but it seems he'd rather shoot with ProresRAW instead.

The questions are : how well are this file formats supported in Media Composer?

- Does ProResRAW offer the possibility "to control WhiteBalance ISO and these other settings in post like in Final Cut"? 

- What about Canon RAW? Does Media Composer allow to work with the RAW settings? 

- Are there advantages editing-wise for us to get ProRes RAW instead of Canon Raw or XAVC SI ?

I personally assume that XAVC SI will behave as XAVC footage I've previously worked with from other types of cameras but I just don't know how much latitude RAW will offer as I don't know of any RAW processing module integrated to media composer.

Would be grateful to have some insights! 

 

Color tool disappears

I have just upgraded to 2021.6.  I'm working on a project with lots of color corrections, and the tool suddenly has disappeared. I can get a version of the color tool to appear if I click Effect Editor, but it isn't the same vertical layout I'm used to, and it goes away if I click somewhere else in the timeline.

What can I do to get it to the format I'm used to?

Avid Media Composer crashes Windows upon exit

Dear Avid Community,

 

We have a strange issue with one of our Avids, upon exiting the software windows gets a blue screen crash and reboots. We tried reinstalling the entire System, reinstalled windows and Avid Softwares and drivers, but the issue stays the same. Then we noticed, that Avid won't crash if we deactivate the external hardware (Nitris DX).

Is this a known bug? And if so has anybody found a fix or workaround for it?

Hello Everyone!

 

Tonight i've installed the Avid Media Composer | First, but i can't start it.

Can't login

 

I checked it and i logged in the Avid Link and i've started the Avid Backround Servives. I already tried to restart the computer, or uninstall it with the Uninstaller and re-install it again.

What should i do?

Import png with Big Sur

I got a new system with Big Sur and the slowdowns are making life difficult.

Trying to import PNG files from photoshop into a project, mainly because for some strange reason, my system stuggles with Titler+ (PLEASE BRING BACK TITLE TOOL FOR 64 BIT OSs!!!!!).

Newest problem, can't drag png files into a bin.  Crash.

Can't use the source browser to import.  Crash.

Please can someone help?

Does anyone know if or how SHUTTER can export a dual mono MP4 from an 8-track Direct OP1a?

Does MC provide a way to make a dual mono MP4 as well as an OP1a with 8-Track Direct audio at the same time?

unable to unregester avid license

Hi,

Im out of service plan, but have 3 Media composer license, Two of the computers have been wipped and repurposed, but the license was not deactivated before, now i can't deactivate them. One for some reason just stopped working, keeps asking me to activate. I went into Avid Link to deactivate but it spins then nothing? Need help resetting the activations on these 3 license.

clip gain slider follows zoom level...

It would be cool if the per clip gain slider that is accessible from the front of every clip, sort of "floats" along with the level of zoom you have applied to the timeline. Basically so you can permanently see that slider and don't have to zoom back out of a clip to see the front of it.  That way when you're in close doing keyframes for example, you could more quickly adjust the overall level of the clip.

HELP: MC 2021.6 crashes on launch!

Hi,

I just installled 2021.6 but, after rebooting, MC started crashing on launch. No way to make it work. I tried to uninstall it and then install it again (always through Avid Link) but it didn't work, MC keep crashing every time. 

Is there a solution? 

I have a 2016 Macbook Pro 15 on Big Sur 11.4 and before installing this bugged version I was using 2021.5 without problems.

Alternate locations for Avid MediaFiles folder

Hi all-

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but is it still the case that the 'Avid MediaFiles' folder MUST be on the root of a drive in order to be recognized by Media Composer? Have there been any changes recently that allow the user to specify an alternate location?

We're trying to keep media files separated by project in order to make things easier to clean up as jobs wrap. So far, we've had editors 'hide' their media for dormant projects by renaming the folders or burying them in subfolders, but this is cumbersome and really easy to screw up.

I'd like to avoid using separate drives per project, and I'd rather not get into partitioning drives or using disk images to work around this.

Media Composer 2021.6 issue

Having downloaded 2021.6, I find that I have an issue with my two screen PC set up. (project and bins in the left hand monitor, composer and timeline in the right hand monitor) 

When playing, trimming or any function in the right hand monitor, without warning the left hand monitor/screen automatically becomes activated and any keyboard or screen functions in the right hand monitor/screen become inoperable. Only by clicking within the right hand monitor/screen will the left hand screen be deactivated and the function become operable. For instance. when playing and adding a keyboard 'in' point. This does not always work if the lft hand screen has aactivated. Or, having added an 'in' point via the keyboard before the left hand screen has automatically activated itself, but trying to enter an 'out' point on the keyboard or screen, this does not work if the left hand monitor/screen for some reason has automatically activated. Trimming becomes frustrating having to constantly deacctivate the left hand monitor by clicking in the right hand screen. 

I have rebuilt all my settings, changed my tracker ball to a mouse, tried a USA keyboard rather than my UK keyboard but the fault sttill exists. I have not tried editing in just one monitor as this is not my way of working.

I use Windows 10 as my computer platform which, I believe, has the latest update.

I have been editing on Media Composer since 1992 so I am well versed with bugs and problems, but I have not met this problem before

Source Browser force refresh ?

Is there a way to refresh the content of the Source Browser ? 

I have a fodler with new files coming in and I don't see them. I don't recall having this issue with other version prior to 2018.1.2. I've tried creating/deleting folder from Avid, or switching back and forth between other folders without success. I don't see a "refresh" button. Everytime time I need to link to a new files, I must restart Avid... 

 

I don't want a dynamic media folder, simply to be able to link to new archival material coming in before transcoding.

Mac Desktop Blocked after Media Composer Instal

Just wondering anyone can help me with this;

I installed Media Composer 21.6.0.55401 on my MacBook Pro yesterday, running Big Sur 11.4.

Everything works fine but I can no longer access files on my desktp in other programmes. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Does the 'Link to Named Settings and Bin Layouts' Workspace feature work in Version 2021?

I used this feature extensively in Version 6 and it was tremendous, it worked seamlessly without issue, but in Version 2021 I have constant crashes. 

Is anybody else using the feature successfully?

To clarify, I'm referring to the following function. 

User Settings > Workspaces > double click a Workspace and select Link to Named Settings >  type in the name of appropriate Timeline and/or Keyboard settings, (assuming additional settings have been created), then type in the name of an associatted Bin Layout, (assuming additional Bin Layouts have been created).  Confirm and got to next Workspace and repeat.

Removing the "Ins" of completed edits from large volume of media

Hi there,

This may be a complicated question (or hopefully not) but we've been racking our brains to figure out the best way to go about this - any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I work for a documentary production company and we have recently set up an large archive raid with all the media that has ever been shot for our various docs (+- 12 films). So basically the raid is full of mxf's (transcodes) that belong to the different films. We have gotten to the stage where all the media is online and ready to go. However, we obviously don't want to be using the media that has already been used in the past edits, "the ins." The idea is that we will be able to use the unused footage to help build other docs in the future. Obviously the easiest thing to do would just be to remove the used mxf's entirely so that no editor has access to them - the tricky part is that we would like to still have access to those used clips as that is often where the action is happening. So in essence we are wanting to remove or affect only the part of that mxf that has been used, the in and out point, not the clip as a whole. We've been wondering if there's any straight forward workflow to achieve this?

We have all the original edits for all the docs, which is how we are determining what the ins of the clips are. In an ideal world it would be great if we could take the completed edits and tell media composer to colour/grade/filter or watermark only the part of the mxf's that has been used in the edit. That way an editor working with this footage in the future could see that, yes a part of this clip is available to use, however the part that is watermarked or graded completely blue (for example) has already been used in an edit and is not available. I say affect the mxf because the "grade or watermark" needs to be baked in so that no editor can just undo it and decide to use it any way, which will obviously create bigger problems down the line.

I would definitely assume this is something others have had to deal with in the past? We've been coming up with a few ways to do this, it's just a question of which method is the most efficient when working with such a mass of media.

Sorry for the long post, again any help would be great!
