Hello. In Final Cut Pro, you can link two audio tracks together if they are stereo pairs, so if you move one they move together on the timeline. In Avid MC 8.5, I can't see how to do that without clicking on both tracks with a move tool. In FCP, you have the option of tying or "linking" a stereo pair of audio tracks or unlinking them. Is this possible in Media Composer?

MC|First and Windows 7 - what wrong?
Hello,
it was a long story, but as a result MCF was launched on 5-year old laptop with 8 GB RAM and Windows 10 Pro.
It was possible to open projects and bins and simple cutting edit.
But, when I just tried to enlarge the composer window a little, all the colors were distorted and the program crashed every time.
Then I decided to test MC|First on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate on the same machine.
Everything went as with Win 10, with the difference that it was not possible to open the first project.

* In some instances, an Alpha matte clip would match frame to the wrong clip.
* If you exported as an AAF a portion of a sequence with “Use Marks” and “Use Selected tracks” selected, the Pro Tools Import Session Data start timecode was incorrect.
* When your locale was set to German, Spanish, or Italian, a number of Media Composer dialog boxes displayed cut off text. Avid continues to make improvements when displaying these languages so the text is displayed properly.
* The color eyedropper was not accurate when working with the 3D Warp effect.
* In some instances, you might have received an “Assertion failed: acomp == NULL acomp->isTransition” error when performing a trim.
* In some instances, you could not change the Mix Format to 5.1 when playing group clips in the Source monitor.
* You might have seen audio keyframe redraw issues in the Timeline when Volume automation data was turned off.
* When working with HiRes monitors, if you were in Frame View, playing back a thumbnail was not in the correct position while playing in bin.
* You might have received “Assertion Failed: mOutputCompression” errors when consolidating AVC High 4:2:2 Intra media.
* You might have received a DidMapper error when consolidating a sequence containing Edit While Capture clips.
* If you were working with a Japanese OS, some clips could not be checked out of Interplay.

Importing clips shot at different speeds
HI,\A friend shot a bunch of footage not knowing how the use the camera all different sppeds!
I thought I could link to them and cut something for him.. but the clips wont play and crash the avid every time. I linked to them. Obviously thats not going to work.. So ?
The files are H2641920 x 1080 23.98 fps, 30 fps and everything in between.
Is there a work around for this..? Bring it in - import at what project setting?
Never again with the favors for people who cant use their cameras properly!
Some of the files are M4V... as well.

Need a card so I can use my Panasonic tv as an output monitor?
Can someone suggest a device I may purchase for this? There's one major problem though...I don't have space for another card in my PC. I do however have dual GTX 1070'S. Hope I can find a solution to this.

MC 8.8.4 Hangs on Startup
Ran into this today but behavior is inconsistent. Project running on ISIS 5500.
Upon startup, project freezes at "Configuring Audio Waveform Cache" but not on all workstations.
Deleted MCState, Site Settings, Site Attributes, Audio Waveform Cache and reboot. no change. Considering rebuilding databases.
Can open it on Macs, can open it on only a few PCs.
Saw a Creative Cow posting about the same issue, but no specifics were included.
The bizarre behavior points to a corrupt project, IMHO, but the fact that we can open it without problem on some stations would seem to refute that as the issue.
Trying not to rebuild this large, complex project, but at a loss for what to do next.

All these "computer" folders
Hi all
Is there any chance for you developers at Avid to hide these computer named folders in the project folder which is created as soon as a client connects to a project?
When like we, have up to 30-40 different clients connecting or has been connected to a project, it is very cluttered in the project window in MC with all these folders that really don't need to be visible there, it's just containing search data etc for each client.
We have projects that really need a lot of organization in term of having a lot of folders and BIN's, and to have these unusable/unwanted computer folders visible is just very frustrating...
Please put in some code to just hide them from the project window! Please..!

legacy omf files off-line (but appear in Media Tool)
I'm trying to rehabilitate a legacy project that also includes OMF files. Using composer 5.5 and a new thunderbolt storage configuration the OMF files are recognized by media tool, the audio files play, but the video files give the message media off-line.
The mystery for me is why they even appear in the media tool if they are considered off-line? And yes I did rebuild the media database and got the same result. I also dragged one of these OMF clips from the media tool into a bin tried to play it immediate offline message. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

invalid file name & crash
Hi!
The download of the trial version of MC runs up fine on my Mac Book Pro - but when I attach a media drive with my Lynda.com tutorials - it crashes with an invaild file name. Launches fine when the drive is not connected - but not when the drive is connected. Clearly has an issue with the drive. Also, some warning about not having write permissions - can anyone help? thanks in advance!!

"Audio Slip" individual tracks in Master Clip??????
Is there a way to "Audio Slip" JUST track A1 INDEPENDENT of A2 in a master clip? No matter what I choose "channel 1" or "channel 2" both A1 and A2 tracks move TOGETHER when applying "Audio Slip" to a master clip.
I can audio slip A1 independent A2 only when working with a master clip inside a sequence.

Rolling end title movement is blurry
I have an age old problem with titles.
Is ther a way to get rid of the blurrines of the rolling end credits with Avid? (I don't have After Effects)
I used title tool and picture file with pan/zoom from photoshop - same result.
I understand, that it is due to the font sice and the speed of pixels moving accross the screen.
I would not like to change the font size. I slowed the roll down as much as I could, but that did not help.
Is the formula to calculate the right speed anywhere available?

Batch Rename XAVC Files
Batch-renaming XAVC files is not possible in MC. These files have to be renamed in advance outside of MC.
Up to MC 8.5x the Sony Plug-in PDZK-MA2 was used to link XAVC files in MC. This plug-in worked well with XAVC files which were batch-renamed before linking them in MC.
With MC 8.6 however, the plug-in MVP_MSP_SonyXDCAM_64-bit is used, linking to XAVC files which were batch-renamed before linking is no longer possible. Each batch of files have now clips 0001, 0002, etc. That means you get multiple clips with identical names in a progressing project.
Working with these clips is confusing and dangerous (e.g. if you want to delete clips). Renaming each individual clip separately is painful.
As long as batch-rename is not possible in MC 8.6, I probably can no longer film in XAVC but am restrained to film in AVCHD (AVCHD files can be directly imported into MC 8.6, no linking is necessary).

Control over Bins and settings.
Hi. I do not know is the proper forum. I've been using Interplay already and I've always found a problem with the Media Composer in the management of the bines. In the Media Composer I have a series of bins with a specific nomenclature that are the ones that I would like everyone to use. The problem is that the creation of bins and folders is open to everyone. They can create and delete bins (even those created by me) without limitation. The same happens with the settings, they can change them without there being any way to avoid it. In a working environment with Iterplay I think it is very interesting that both the creation and deletion of bins and the modification of the settings, could only be done with the introduction of a password, which would not have a normal user of the Media Composer. Something like the limitation to five bins of Media Composer First but with greater possibilities. I think it would be very useful.

HELP! How do I up-res footage in sequence?
Hi foiks, feeling stressed out. Got a deadline to meet for a festival and urgently need to up-res my sequence. I AMA linked but didn't transcode (realised this is kind of an essential step I missed) ???
So now I have the film cut but the resolution is at DNHD 36. Also my workflow is a complete mess (I'm learning at this game!) [:'(] I really would appreciate any help you lot can give me. Also can you please explain the steps in layman terms and break it down into simple chunks?

Avid Media Composer 8 30 Trial on MacBook Pro & Lynda.com
Hello!
Where do I put Lynda.com exercise files and media so that the Avid trial will recognize on my MacBook Pro? The tutorial from Lynda makes it very clear to put these zip files on my media drive to avoid having media offline - however, I do not have a media drive on my laptop & when I attach a lacie rugged - I get an error of "invalid file name" and AVID crashes.

New Virtual Machine option for Media Composer
Avid is actively working on a new licensing option to allow Media Composer to work in a virtual environment. Users can just spin up a new version of Media Composer off a virtualized server.
Here is some background on the enviroment:
What is VM? A virtual machine (VM) is an emulation of a computer system as a substitute for a real (physical) machine. VM’s provide the functionality needed to run entire operating systems and the applications and programs that run within them. A virtual machine, usually known as a “guest,” is created within another computing environment referred to as a "host." Multiple virtual machines can exist within a single host at one time. A hypervisor facilitates abstraction of physical hardware resources allowing users to create and manage virtual machines as well as manage allocation of physical resources.
What is PCoIP? PC-over-IP, is a high performance display protocol used to deliver a virtual desktop to an endpoint device.
What is VDI? Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is a desktop virtualization approach in which a desktop operating system runs and is managed in a data center. The desktop image is delivered over a network to an endpoint device, which allows the user to interact with the OS and its applications as if it were running locally. All of the data still resides in the data center.
When will this be available? Late Q2 2017
