Script search not searching all scripts

Running MC 8.9.2 on Mac Pro running 10.11.6.

 

Working on a sprawling doc project with 100ish hours of interviews and more to come, all transcribed and scripts imported.

When I keyword search "Current Script" for "Script A" I get multiple hits, but when I search "Scripts in Project", "Script A" doesn't come up, and nor do several others which I know to contain the keyword.

Is there anything I can do to get it to re-index the scripts without also reindexing the Phrasefind index, which takes a looong time?

Avid MC won't AMA import

On MC 8.9.3

NOT running High Sierra - we are on 10.12.6 Using external USB 3.0 drives (like we always have). But lately the MC sees the folder set from our Sony PMW-F5 but refuses to do an AMA import. Click..nothing. Click, click, click…nothing. Noticed permissions were wrong. Changed them so “everyone” was included and applied to all subfolders. Restart MC…still nothing. Click..nothing. Click, click, click…nothing. Only two options work. 1) drive down into the folder and select only the MXF files to AMA import (never had to do this before) 2) copy media onto my internal drives and then import (not fast or practical). Thoughts?

Digital Cut 16 ch audio via HD-SDI to Cinedeck

Discovery has new specs requiring 16 channels of audio on master files.  I generally Digital Cut via HD-SDI to a Cinedeck virtual deck to create master files - the Cinedeck emulates a Sony SRW-5500 for RS-422 control.   When using Digital Cut tool, selecting the SRW-5500 in deck configuration limits HD-SDI output to 12 channels of audio (even with 16 ch enabled in audio project).  Every other deck option available only allows a max of 12 channels.  Is there a way to create a custom or generic deck that allows me to maintain RS-422 control and output 16 channels of audio via HD-SDI?

Unusual Trim Mode Crashes (5+ a day) with 8.8.3 & 8.8.4

Hi,

Long time Media Composer user and I haven't quite seen anything this perplexing. We've swapped systems, Blackmagic devices, upgraded to 8.8.4, even upgraded macOS to 10.11.6 and my editor is crashing constantly in Trim Mode. We have DNxHD 115 files in multicam clips (A/B only) streaming from a Nexus. My identically matched system doesn't crash and I arguably use Avid "harder" than he does, we're not pushing the system to the limit or anything. Random roller trims seem to cause him to crash. It'll crash when he previews things. And like I said, we've swapepd systems and it's still happening.

Has anyone experianced this before? We're desperate for solutions! Next I'm goin gto start downgrading .1 release by .1 release to see if it solves his issue.

I have crash logs I can email to someone if that helps.

adding audio to the timeline

Hi, I am new to media composer so I apologize if this is a silly question. I recently downloaded the trial version of media composer 8 onto my mac 10.11.3. I'm trying to add a music audio clip to my timeline. I created a new audio track for this purpose. when I try to either drag and drop from the bin, or doule click it and press V or B to either Insert or overwriteto my timeline, all my video clips move over even though they are on different tracks. I don't know how to keep everything else where it is and just add the audio clip to the track under them with out effecting them by having them move out of the way. What am I doing wrong?

Slow Read Speeds with Myricom Card

I am not sure if the is the correct form for this but maybe someone can direct me in the right direction.

 

I have four Nexis pros (7.6.1) under one system director and a Dell S4810 switch.

When running a path diag the read/write speeds are vastly different.

The test is two minute NEXIS read/write unlimited @4096

The settings on the Myricom card are Avid spec. 

Flow control: On/ Interrupt Coalescing Delay: 2/ Receive Buffers: 2048/ MTU: 1500/ RSS: Disabled (enabled on Windows 10)

I have ran the tests on two different ports on the switch.  One with flow control RX on TX off.  One with RX off TX off.

 

The test ran on a z420 windows 7 AMC 8.5.3 with Myricom card (32GB RAM) Read: 276 Write: 630

This computer on the RX off TX off Read: 280 Write: 620

 

The test ran on a z600 windows 7 AMC 7.0.6 with Myricom card (24GB RAM) Read: 240 Write: 517

This computer on the RX off TX off Read: 244 Write: 515

The test ran on a z600 windows 10 AMC 7.0.6 with Myricom card (24GB RAM) Read: 352 Write: 540

This computer on the RX off TX off Read: 295 Write: 540

The test ran on a z820 windows 10 AMC 7.0.6 with Myricom card (32GB RAM) Read: 497 Write: 574

This is RX off TX off

 

The test ran on a trash can mac 10.11.6 with Myricom card (64GB RAM) Read: 708 Write: 782

This is RX off TX off

 

Cards have been swapped from the mac to the windows machines but that does not change the read speeds on the windows machines.

 

I understand that they should not be identical, both read/write and computer to computer, but there seems to be something seriously wrong with how the windows machines are dealing with the read speeds.

 

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

EUControl (still) interfering with mouse operation

Win 10 pro fully updated and latest EUControl (3.6.1) installed. 

Some mouse functionality has improved over the last EUControl versions, but unfortunately I now get a lot of random double-clicks when clicking once, and some mouse clicks doesn't seem to register at all. 

Tried other mice, updated/downgraded/reinstalled drivers etc, but the only solution to this double-click problem I've found is to Exit EUControl, and then the mouse behaves normally again. 

Anyone else experiencing this?

Avid Space plugin & MC 8.9.3

Is anybody using Avid Space (12.0) with MC 8.9.3?  

After rendering a clip the first 2.5 seconds are completely wrong and each render creates a different sound. 
I don't have any experience with using that plug-in and I'm wondering if the issues are related to the Media Composer version or the plugin itself? Is it possible to work with Dual Mono tracks (panned to Left / Right) when they both have the same setting? At the moment it sounds very wrong, both channels have a different sound and volume.

But it's working all fine with D-Verb so I guess the plugin is buggy?

WalkComposition Error

Hello,

I've checked in an AAF and now attempting to GetSegmentsFromComposition but the server returns a soap:Server fault code with a WalkComposition faultstring. However the sequence does show up in Interplay Access and can be loaded into Avid. What is the cause of this error?

AMA-Transcoded Media vs Imported Media -- switching from one to the other

Here's our situation: We're looking at multiple shows that were edited using AMA-transcoded media.  That got the team through offline, but now that we're in Finishing we're seeing significant banding and artifacting on much of the footage.  The problem does not seem to be the result of the resolution during the AMA transcode process.   No matter how high we go with the resolution, we still get artifacts.  The artifacting is not on the original footage.

The clips in question all originiated from ProRes files, brought in via AMA and then transcoded to DNxHD.

If, instead of AMA-transcoding, we import the same ProRes files and choose "preserve original resolution" the clips look great.  Even when layers are added on top of the footage and rendered, exported, etc. the quality is excellent.

So the solution we're potentially facing involves re-importing all the ProRes footage and manually cutting it over the existing AMA-transcoded footage.  Unfortuantely that's just about the entire show across multiple shows.  To add insult to injury AMA-transcodes seem to be oblivious to the full OS file paths their source footage -- lost presumably during the AMA transcoding process; all we know are the original file names.  And the source files themselves are scattered across multiple folders, down various convoluted paths without much rhyme or reason, with a significant number of duplicate file names involved, on ISIS storage that can't be searched via standard Apple Finder search for lack of Apple-friendly drive indexes.

So some questions:

- Is there some way of easily listing the original full file paths from the AMA-transcoded master clips?  Or is that info lost in the AMA-transcode workflow?

- Is there some existing way of batch importing from original media into the master clips that were generated by AMA transcodes?

- Is there some way of replicating the "preserve original resolution" option that auto pops when importing, but available in an AMA-transcode workflow?

Using User Settings on multiple systems

I am a little confused how importing your user settings works.  I work on quite a few systems and want my user settings to travel with me from room to room.   Please tell me if what I am doing is correct:
  • Store my User Settings on a drive accessible from all systems. 
  • Choose Import Settings on Log-in and access my settings
  • Once I've done that on a system, I don't do it again.
  • From what I can tell, when you do that, Media Composer  creates a subfolder in your User Settings folder on your local drive with that information.  That subfolder is updated when I make a change to my Settings.
  • When I make a change to a setting at any station, those changes follow me to another room without having to re-save those settings to the common drive.

Is this correct?  Does Media Composer look at the settings directly in my local drive, or only at the folder within it?  If I am wrong about this, is there some way I can do this without having to save and reimport settings every time?

My manager says I should never import my settings.  I should copy and paste.  I don't want to have to do that every time I make a change to my setttings and change systems.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

NSML 3.1 spec

I can't seem to find the NSML 3.1 specs. I have found the 3.0 draft FAQ but its just a draft. 

Specifially im trying to add a <link><show> tag but need to know the syntax. When i CreateStory with inews WS, the server cant parse my NSML.

Avid server status?

Hi, I'm trying to log into the Application Manager on MC First, and have got this message:

 

'We are unable to sign you in. Looks like Avid servers have outage. Please try again.'

 

Does anyone know what's happening, or when it might be sorted out?

MTS to MXF converter

Hi

Can one please suggest a high quality converter that can convert from MTS files created with Panasonic camera AVAHD in  full HD  resolution 50 frames 1080P  what is called PS quality ( UX 180) and some in 1080 I  PH quality to MXF files that would be edited on a 5.5.1 Media composer .

Avid freezing my PC for 2" regularly

Anyone had this?  Everything freezes for about 2" every few minutes when Avid is open - be that dragging in the timeline or typing in a Word doc.  It ignored my keyboard typing for this post 5 times and so misses typed words!  It doesnt happen if Avid is closed.

I thougit the lack of response when editing was a disk issue - just like a disk went to sleep and takes a couple of seconds to wake up.  But its not since it happens on SSD's and all my drives on my 'full power-never off' setting.

It looks to me like its polling something - maybe something to do with AMA - and this gets priority over everything?

Any ideas guys and gals?

8.9.3: cosmetic bug in Export to file dialog ?

Since I upgraded to 8.9.3, when I select File/Output/Export to file...the dialog box that appears covers slightly more than the real estate of my default 1920 x 1200 display (it extends slightly into the second monitor) and is a non-resizable dialog box. It is fully functional but a huge, mostly empty dialog box seems a bit odd.

Installation hiccup ?

Anyone else seeing this ?

A config file or reg key to reset before I attempt to reinstall the whole thing ?

Media Composer 8.2.12 stuck at reading user settings

Hi All

I am facing this problem after installation of Win 7 Pro 64bit.

We are using Media Composer 8.2.12 with 

-Interplay Access 3.1.0

- ASF 1.8.0

-Avid Media Indexer 3.1.0  

-ISIS client 4.7.11

Problem:

* It got stuck in reading user settings. user settings stored locally.

*Without ISIS connectivity media composer is working fine.But when we use it, got stuck

What I did

*I checked • NIC settings, BIOS, graphics drivers and all other software related to media composer for interplay environment are  configured as per AVID standards

Is it possible to import files to Avid based on a list?

We've got thousands of files scattered across a variety of folders and sub-folders.

We've got list of hundreds of items in those folders that we'd like to import.

If I had my choice, all the files would be in one folder, not scattered across a labyrinthian hierarchy, but the situations is what it is.

AMA transcoding is not an option.  Files must be imported.  It's a first-time import job, not a batch re-import session.

I'd like to be able to feed Avid a list and tell it to import every item on the list.

8.9.3 / 8.5.3 Safe Color Limiter effect bug

I have been testing MC 8.9.3.  Ran into a recurring bug.

FYI - I work in a shared storage environment.

I set up a sequence in 8.9.3.  Top layer is the Safe Color Limiter effect.  I set my normal settings.  Confirmed that it was working as expected on external scopes.

Then facility needs changed.  I went to a different room running 8.5.3 (our current house standard).  I opened the sequence created in 8.9.3 and prepared to do an AMA Export / op1a.

Spot checked my sequence and noticed that black levels were now being clipped at around 20 ire!!

I opened the Safe Color Limiter effect and all settings were where they should be.  I tossed this effect and redid it in the currently open 8.5.3 system.  Levels were now correct.  I am currently creating the file to go to QC.

This issue of the Safe Color Limiter effect in a sequence not working correctly between software versions and even PC / Mac systems has come up several times.

Quite boring.
