MultiGroup in 18.12.1 creates one clip not multiple

This is in 18.12.1.

 

I haven't used MultiGroup since 18.7 or maybe 18.4 and selecting a bunch of clips and selecting MultiClip will create a bunch of separate Group clips and a MultiGroup clip.  It now creates one clip with a dot in front of the name.

 

According to the Help file, this is the expected behaviour:

 

"Your Avid editing application creates several group clips for each take in the bin, and then creates a multigroup clip from the groups. The multigroup clip has the same icon as the group clips, but the icon is preceded by a plus sign."

AMA links keep breaking

I'm finding that when I AMA link on my computer with 2018.12.1 & 2018.12.2 and then open up the same bin(s) other computers (that have 2018.09 and/or 2018.10 installed), the AMA links are always breaking. It only seems to happen when going from a newer version of Avid to an older (from 2018.12 and on).

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone please look into this? This is proving to be very cumbersome to keep having to reestablish the AMA links.

View Multicam Playback in Full Resolution

It's 2019 and my computer and drives are fast enough to watch multiple streams at the same time, there is also a new function where you can "Ignore Real Time Stream Limits".

But when I want to watch 2 cameras simultaneously in quad split - I still can only do it in half resolution.

I would like to watch it in full resolution where I can see all details.

Any way to un-gang multiple tracks at once?

Hey everybody,

Is there a way to un-gang multiple audio tracks in the mixer all at once instead of having to click each individual track on and off? I feel like I do that motion so often and waste time with a bunch of extra clicks, especially if I happen to miss the gang button.  It's a tiny detail but in a pinch, it eats up time.

AMA links breaking

I'm finding that when I AMA link on my computer with 2018.12.1 & 2018.12.2 and then open up the same bin(s) other computers (that have 2018.09 and/or 2018.10 installed), the AMA links are always breaking. It only seems to happen when going from a newer version of Avid to an older (from 2018.12 and on).

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone please look into this? This is proving to be very cumbersome to keep having to reestablish the AMA links.

Marquee formatting issue

I am trying to insert a sound recording copyright symbol ℗ into Marquee end credits. I don't have the symbol on my keyboard but have copied it from 'Emoji and Symbols' and have also tried copying from online sources. Each time I paste it into my credits it appears on a new line below but it thinks it's on the correct line and can't just be moved to the correct location. I have looked at paragraph spacing and it matches the rest of the line. I can't seem to get it on the line where I want it - beside the ©.

Any advice anyone? I have attached a grab.

MC crash: all saves since session start lost and more !

I've been working for more than one hour on CC work when MC crashed.

To my big surprise, when I relaunched, ALL work done in that session had been lost, *regardless* of the background bin saves (set to 5 minutes !) AND some intermediate CTRL-S just to be sure. The state of the bin is just the same as the latest found in the Attic. This is so unbelievable !!!! How is this possible ???
To make things worse, it appears that the latest version of the sequence in the bin is corrupt and exhibits "Range specified for DUP is outside range of component" when I try to duplicate it (http://community.avid.com/forums/p/126451/723821.aspx#723821)...
The same yields for many generations of this bin in the Attic, which contains 100s of hours work.
So now I have to not only redo all the work from the crashed session, but I also have to find which clip causes the corruption that prevents to make a new version of the sequence ! Not sure yet how to do that in this 45 minutes multicam sequence. Let alone investigating why and when did corruption creep into this sequence ???

Sorry for the rant  -- I'm just extremely angry -- MC stability on my Avid-supported system has been so problematic since months (a couple of cases still open, and I'm not counting the crashes that I don't even bother reporting because they seem so random and unreproducable) - OK dumping my anger here isn't a good idea and I apologize for the tone of this post, but I really needed to express my frustration of past hundreds of unexpected crashes and hours of work lost. Every other minute I wonder if I should change editing software and take the pain to start the uphill battle of a fully new way of working - or are other editing systems just equally fragile ?
Or it's perhaps just me -- and I should start growing vegetables instead.

I also wonder how many people here, professional or amateur editors (like me) actually get at least one crash/hang a day when working with MC ?

At this point, I will now, every hour at a minimum:
- Create a new version (duplicate) each sequence I'm working on
- Save and *EXIT* MC.

Default Target Drive for Effects, Transitions & Capture

I am editing a project on the Q: drive but for some reason every time I make a quick transition it has defaulted back to C: as the target drive and I have to manually change it.  Can anyone tell me how to set the target drive default back to Q: ?

Nexis client, folders in workspaces occasionally locked on windows user level.

Dear Avid, Bob,

I see another case being opened for the latest project I'm doing but before doing so I wonder if you ever saw this before Bob?

About once a week a client of the Nexis storage, it can be a win10 editing client or win 2012r2 server like SGL all of a sudden produces a user rights access warning when you try to access a sub folder or parent folder while browsing either in an apllication or windows itself. Only resolution is to quit nexis client and start it again and that immediatly resolves it.

In the past 6 weeks I have become aware of it happening 4,5 times. So it's not a killer but still a bit worrying.

I've seen it happen with 7.3.2 client and 7.5. Weirdly never with 7.4. And because the 7.4 client accidentally did not include the fix  that could under circumstances cause the media indexer to BSOD, I wonder if that's related or just pure coincedence.

I already have a case open because 7.5 client causes BSOD's on 2 SGL Flashnet servers, probably because RSS is enabled on the 10G cards and wonder if I should open a case for this one folder user rights issue too.

MC won't stop playback

Anyone else experiencing this since .8? 


I am playing a sequnce and then the MC shuts me out and keeps playing and won’t let me stop.No amount of clicking anywhere in any window in the application or outside of it or even hiding it will force it to stop.
Force-quitting gets me out, of course.But if I haven’t saved recently, that’s  a terrible choice.
Instead, if power down a drive it needs for playback it chokes and stops and lets me back “in”.

50p shot deliver on 50i

Most of the cameras todays as my GH5 are shooting progressive but the TV channels here (or everywhere) want 50i for both SD and HD.

I think it's better to shoot on 50p so I can deliver or encode to 50i after.

Anyone facing the same issues?

Avid Link Memory Leak?

Hey everyone. Having some concerns with Avid Link. I noticed while editing in 2018.12.1 that my timeline was sluggish and noticed in my system resource manager that Avid Link was using a considerable amount of memory. Has anyone experienced this?

i did a clean uninstall and reinstall of both MC and Avid Link with no obvious difference.

Also, none of the tabs on Avid Link work except for the product tab, which fortunately allowed me to add my system ID info to launch 2018.12.1.

 

Any thoughts?

Importing and linking

I threre.

I'm evaluating Media Composer.

No way to use it till now, if fails in linking and importing any media contents.
Fails to open H264 streams, DTS, Dolby and AAC streams, MKV (H264+DTS/Dolby/AAC/Wave), M2TS (H264+DTS/Dolby/AAC/Wave).
Succeeds only in importing Wave streams.

Any suggestions?

Avid Every time I insert a clip. Loading media file information and relink

Hello,

Does anyone have this going on? 

Everytime I insert a clip into my sequence avid says its "Loading media file information" with a progress bar that takes about 2 secs and then "relinking to media" progress bar. Does anyone know whats causing this? And how I can get it to not do this?

 

I noticed it only does this with clips that have 4K footage. 

 

I am using transcoded footage (DNxHRx) and the media is on an Internal hard drive. I am using PC and Avid 2018.10. My project settings are 23.976, 3240x1080

Is there any way to "nest" my audio tracks?

I needed to use multitrack audio for this concert doc.

But usually I don't need to see this many audio channels in my mixer.

Timeline View and Command Palette / 2018.11 /

MC 2018.11 Command Palette does not hold Timeline View settings.

I can assign settings to TV1, TV2 ...  but after changing the project, the settings disappear / none info /so I can not use keyboard shortcut.

In MC 2018.9 works fine.

Can you confirm this ?

SCRIPTSYNC/2018.12.1 - Phonetic index unavailable error

I just upgraded to 18.12.1 on macOS 10.13.6

When I try to use ScriptSync by selecting a take and a script I get the following error: Exception: Phonetic index is unavailable or not installed.

Also when I try to use PhraseFind, a red button appears, and I cannot select any languages in the drop list.

Both options were previously working without issues. I have already tried to deactivate/reactivate scriptsync/phrasefind/avid media composer, re-install completely avid media composer, run the complete installation of Avid Language pack, delete search data folder in projects, and try to create a new user for the settings, without any success.

I have downgraded to 2018.11 and it is now working fine again.

For information, I have opened a support case 03640805.
