Getting inconsistent extract and lift error. Has happened ever since upgrading from MC5 to MC8.1.  Intermittently continues to happen with each update of MC 8.3, 8.4, 8.5.  Currently MC 8.6.1.   With each upgrade a new user preference is created.

Place an in “I” and out “O” point then use “X” key, “Z” key, or the “C” key, or the buttons, to extract or lift the section and get this message:

Avid Media Composer
“an error has been encountered. Do you want to revert edits?”
No - Yes

Either choice results in “Invalid Trim” message and nothing happens.

However, sometimes it works normally all day long.  Seems to depend on where the edit points are placed in the timeline.

Working on a Power Mac 8 core OSX 10.9.5, had same intermittent issue with OSX 10.8

I know it is not a big thing but why is 2019.6 limited to 2 highlight colours when previously there were about 7? (This is in the interface setting)

I was partial to the default blue but am now limited to either a brightish white or a purple. Why the change in the number of colours for this setting?

I'm having trouble playing back clips on Avid MC First.

When a clip is loaded into the player window, and the image of clip is displayed, clicking the PLAY button appears to appear a new window in the playback area, and the clip video is not displayed, just its audio.

When you click on the BIN of clips, or another window, on the other monitor, the image of the clip reappears on the monitor of the player, but when you click the PLAY button, the same thing happens. (i7-LGA2011 / 4-color / 32GB / GTX970 / Dual Monitor / Win 10 Home)

On another machine (i5-LGA1151 / 16GB / GTX570 / Single Monitor / Win 10 Home), the application starts to run, but stops on the screen below.

Media Composer v2019.6 , load a video into the source monitor in Media Composer. Playing the clip in the source when you try and mark in "i" on the keyboard or "o" on the keybaord mark out the playback stops. Brand new install on High Sierra no previous user serttings for Media Composer used.

Hi all

Running Avid 2018.12.3 on an ISIS 5500 with most recent Nexis Client software.  We keep our avid projects on a projects partition and our media on separate media partitions per project.

So here's the issue.

We recently updated to 2018.12.3 and a handful of people are having an issue where a their avid bins will throw an error during the save, something about not being able to copy to (or from?) the avid attic, and that the file is gone.  Then the Avid bin goes to 0kb, even though there are sequences in it.  If you hit save, it pretends to save, but the bin is still 0kb.  

If I create a new bin with the same name, the exact same thing happens to it 15 or 20 minutes later.  

If I create a new bin with a different name, it seems to be fine.

The only solution is to move my cuts from the corrupt bins to new bins before the bins are closed (and everything is destroyed). 

Also, the Avid Attic keeps saving these 0k files from when it starts.  So the attic is full of 0kb bins.

Only thing I can think is that something to do with the background autosaving attic is causing a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  This is causing riots at the office.

Does anyone know of a place to report bugs for Media Composer? I have just been using the latest version for a project, and while there is much to like I found myself uninstalling it after a week as there were a couple of bugs that made it impossible to live with. 

- Tab (and shift tab) no longer works when editng columns in a bin.

- I couldn't set custom columns for selections of items. (Usually available by Shift+Right Clicking on a field with a selection active).

- It's often almost impossible to find the right place to right click (for e.g. to add a new sequence) in a bin that is full of 100s of clips.

- In one bin I had, I couldn't delete sequences or titles. Pressing Delete or selecting delete in the top menu didn't do anything.

- THe one that finally made me uninstall was this: I was trying to add a colour a specific subset of sequences in a bin (something I do frequently as part of my organisational process). When I added a colour to any selection of sequences in a sifted view, all the sequences in the bin were coloured.

- Not a bug, but there are certain situations when you're moving around between bins where the sidebar behaviour is funky because it operates in a different way to other 'windows' in the docking system. It might just take a bit of getting used to, but the logic is strange, and when shuffling bins, I often found myself closing the container with the sidebar in, and then having to set the layout up again.

- I think this might have come up in 2018.12.3, but I'm finding it can take significant time to open some bins. I have a 7Mb bin full of selects which took 30s to open.

     I tried updating to 2019.6 but had to revert back to the earlier version because no media would play in either the source or playback monitors. I can hear the audio when I play through sequences and I can hear audio when in the source monitor. But both the source and playback monitors are completely black. This occurs in any of my already created Avid Projects (I didn't try creating a new project... in hindsight, it would have been a good test before uninstalling and reverting back to the previous version of Avid). 

     I can see video thumbnails in the thumbnail view of my bins and all of my media is still online (both AMA and transcoded).

     I'm on a Late 2013 Mac Pro and updated to macOS Mojave (10.14.5).

     Has anyone else heard of this issue / have any suggestions? As always, thanks for your time and help!

Avid crashed several times this afternoon due to what I guess was a corrupted file. After starting a new timeline, the crashes stopped, but the drives still felt overheated, so I decided to check the console. First I got a bunch of these errors:

CATException[80000008]FillCTVideoFormat, ../../CAT/core/extra/ctop.cpp:169 -> CAT_EXPECT_TRUE( width && height )

Then, every second or so, for as long as I keep the program running, I saw a variation of this:

MSMRescan() took: 0.058000s

I wasn't sure what the problem was, so I tried restarting Avid, restarting the computer, deleting settings, changing users and rebuilding databases. The only thing that seems to stop the endless rescanning is unplugging one of my external media drives (first one ran out of space, so now I'm working off of two). Unfortunately, I need both drives in order to edit. Is there an easy fix that I'm missing?

Having massive Runtime Errors with 2019.6.  Doesn't seem to like Boris Red that I've been using for years.  Can't make changes on any Boris effects or any clips next to a Boris effect.  New projects don't like Boris.  Runtime Error, Crash.  Every time.  This is fun!

Avid Tech Support had me create a new User.  That seemed to work for about 5-minutes.

And, the Pulldown Menus Tabs in the Composer Window decided to change its Font to some Old English.  Can barely read it.  And, the Floating Windows don't like to stay exactly where I place them.

I am currently experiencing a color issue within Avid Media Composer 8.4.2, if anyone would be able to help me I would be very grateful :)

The problem that I am experiencing basically is a difference in color between the original video files (as viewed in QuickTime Player and other media players and editing software), the clips as shown in the Composer Window, and ultimately the final exported file.

My aim would be to be able to view video in Avid in the same color space as it is shown before being imported and after, as an exported video file.

The original clips are all QuickTime movie files that I have linked into Avid bins using AMA (the color profile of all the clips is HD (1-1-1), as shown in the Inspector). Some clips are in H.264 format, others in ProRes 422.

I have sent an attachment below to what the frame of a clip looks like opened in QuickTime Player (first image), and how it looks like once linked into Avid, with the blacks very washed out (second image).

I have tried accessing the “Source Settings” and changing the Source color space, adding numerous Color transformations, but nothing seems to match the colors in the original clip. I have also tried changing the Display Color Space in the Source Monitor and in the Viewer, but still nothing matches.

The Color Space of the project is set to YCbCr 709. I have also tried creating a new project in RGB 709, AMA linking and importing the same clips (as DNxHD), but the problem still persists.

Finally, when I export the clip, the only format that matches the original clips is H.264, but when exporting using different Compression Types (Animation, ProRes etc.), Avid exports files with completely different colors, that neither match the original QuickTime files, nor what is shown in the Composer Window.

Is this a problem that can be fixed inside Media Composer, or is there a preferred format to convert files to before linking or importing them that I am not aware of? I have looked extensively but can't seem to find a solution. As said in the beginning, the biggest problem is not being able to see what will be the final result while editing in Avid.

Hello:  OK. I just launched the new media composer.  The CTI returns to its playback origin when I hit the space bar to stop it.  What's the shortcut to have it behave "normaly"and stop in the timeline when you hit the space bar. Thanks.  Are there other changes to seemingly normal basic performance behaviors?  Thanks foe any help.  Dan.

Am I so hopelessly lost that nobody thinks this question warrents an answer or, have I stumbled into something where nobody knowes the simple answer?  There has to be a simple keyboaed shortcut "toggle" that determines the behavior of the CTI.

This includes the recent announcements of the 2019 releases of Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius. 

A major focus of our analysis was on the shift from perpetual to subscription models and as a result we have increased the number and appeal of cross-grade offers for those that are interested in shifting from perpetual to subscription.  We have also increased the number of payment options for subscription, including pay up front annually, commit annually but pay monthly and pay as you go, monthly. In addition, we have decided that customers currently subscribing to Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius will not have a price increase, however they must continue to keep their subscription current in order to maintain their existing price.

Please know that Avid understands the impact and implication of price increases and this is not a decision we take lightly or without significant analysis and thought.  For those of you that are currently on Perpetual Licenses, the increase ranges from 0-33% on new licenses depending on the product and type of license.  As an alternative to renewing at the new pricing, there are incentives for you to cross-grade from your current perpetual license to subscription, like decreased pricing and additional functionality, depending on the product. We would highly recommend that you look at those options as you consider your next renewal.

A few answers to questions you will probably want to know….

         The new pricing will take effect July 1, 2019.

This has always driven me nuts about Avid and they just refuse to fix (this has to be a bug) change this. Someone please give me info on how to stop the 3d warp from affecting the bottom layer. Here is the setup

I created a title in bluefx Titler Pro. I have placed this text over a background layer. The background layer has some movement so I would like to add tracking the title to make it feel like its part of the background. I apply a 3d warp, add tracking to position and now I have a copy of the background that moves with the text. I just need the text to move, not a copy of the background layer with the text moving. Someone hlep please. This is just stupid.

After the new update I cant se any files in any of the monitors. Now its black and sometimes it shows a freeze frame from the clip.

I tried to look att diffrent sequenses, look at the original clips and also look at the transcoded clips. When I play from timeline or directly in source monitor I can hear the sound but the monitor is black or its frozen. 

I will attach a printscreen from my two screens. Maby I have missed something obvious.

I'm working on an animated film for a client.  My animator gives me the video and I'm using Avid to do sound, sfx, and captions.

My goal is to avoid transcoding unnecessarily.  So I was trying to export a QT reference that I would then use with MPEG streamclip to export an MP4.

I realise that you can't do that. My normal workflow is to do a Video Mixdown of course. But transcoding the animated video seems to affect the colour.

Please return function of audio scrub to the CAPS lock. Also, TAB no longer moves cursor to the next column in bin (used extensivley when logging scene and take information).

I do not know if this issue is because of mixed frame rates or something else, but ....

Tested on 2018.12.6 and at least one other earlier version.

I am in a 1080i/59.94 project.  I made a group consisting of a 3840x2160 23.976 and a 1920x1080 29.97p clip by marking in points on both clips at a clapper mark and creating the group via Inpoints.

When I check the group in quad view in the source window or when cut into a sequence, the sync is now out.

I can edit the group visually, update the group and then sync is correct.

I can create the group from scratch by making a sequence and creating the group from there and sync is correct in this situation.

I'm working on project shot on a Sony FS7.  The footage is XAVC 4K Intra Class 300.   I'm also importing some graphics to use with the same project and I'm given a choice between CGB or VBR.  I assume I want the import to match the camera footage, but I don't know which import option to choose?

Hello again, sagely advisors. I’m running Media Composer 8.8.1 on Windows 7 Pro. I just got a 43” monitor to replace my older 33” as my primary screen, swapping that 33” now as my secondary screen, which I like to use for bins (leaving the Timeline and Source/Record windows for the larger main screen).

However, although all other programs will extend through the two screens (I can view an MS Word doc over both monitors) – when I try to extend my workspace in Avid over to the secondary monitor, it goes over there AS I am dragging the right-hand portion of my workspace windows from Monitor #1 but the moment I release the mouse the workspace immediately pops back to only on the main screen.

I can drag the ENTIRE window (by click/holding on the top of the workspace and dragging it to the middle of BOTH screens) and that stays put – but the moment I try to drag the right side of the workspace all the way to the right of the second monitor and/or left to the left, everything once again pops back into full frame on the primary screen.

I was wondering if it could be a resolution issue (Screen 1 is at 2560x1440 while Screen 2 is at 1920x1080) but if that were the case why would I not experience the “pop back to screen 12” issue when the workspace is centered on both monitors?

Anyway, kinda defeats the purpose of buying a big new monitor if I can’t extend the space to the other and gain some real estate… As always, any thoughts or suggestions very welcome, thanks!
