Hi,
Suddenly, after not being able to export a sequence, Avid MC stopped working properly.
After booting the application, when I open a project I get the following error message:
assersion failed: m_valid File:/Builds/workspace/MC/Release_installer_Git/Mac_Build/coresw/VolumeUI/volMenuUtils.c Line: 1089
then I can choose from debugger, continue, exit applictaion or create report, but I can't work. if I choose continue, I'll get this message on everything I try to do.
It happens in all my projects, including a newly creatd one.
I tried the following:
Restart the computer
uninstall and install Avid MC again
Deleting the latest render files, thought maybe they caused the problem.
but the problem persists. Please help! I can't work!

OSX Mojave 10.14.6

Hi,
I have some camerawork that involves a slow pan, but still there is a little jerk in the movement. Is there any way to smooth this in MC?
Thank you,

I've had the Protools dock for around 8 months now, and was pretty happy with its functionality in Media Composer.
Recently, the fader bar has stopped working properly. I can select a channel, and lower the levels, but as soon as I let go the fader, it snaps back to the zero position. The Mixer screen on the play app shows the level back up at 0, while the mixer inside Avid shows it at the adjusted level. But as soon as i go to do a further adjustment, the mixer in Avid snaps back to 0 (i would assume because everything else says it is at 0)
This essentially makes the entire mixing system unusable with in the dock...which sucks, as that is why i bought it.
I'm pretty sure we were good until 2020 came out.
Running Windows 10, with updated Avid and Eucon and play app versions.

Does anyone here have a circuit diagram from the artist color v1 or newer?
Avid folks, is there any roadmap you can share with us that will fill us in on when we can safely upgrade past Mojave to a version of MC without compromises? From what I've read on the boards 2020.5 doesn't seem to cut it for serious work on a broadcast show due to several limitations. If anyone's using it in a high pressure environment with multiple AE's and editors with no issues plz let me know. For instance I don't know of any TV post house in NYC that's updated to the 2019 version, let alone 2020.
Now that Apple is moving on to OS 11 (bye bye X) and their new processor architecture, will Avid be keeping up? I was kind of hoping for some sort of big announcement from Avid today that they just couldn't say until Apple officially announced the transition.
Avid is the only piece of software I use that has made me have to stay a year behind on OS updates and now I'm afraid it will go longer.
Reading the latest updates to the Titler+ thread on here make me worry.
Yes, that old Sony EX1 XDCAM-EX 35MB HD Footage.
I'm editing a documentary that has been filming for the past seven years. The earlier footage was shot on Sony EX1 (1080i50), and I can't import/transcode the footage into Avid MC successfuly.
I have Avid 2020.5 on Mac OSX 10.14.6.
The clips cannot be imported, and no AMA plugin even recognised the footage except MediaReactor. MediaReactor used only one audio track (and doubled it) and completely ignored A2 track, which makes the footage unusable.
Searching the web I found old and not applicable solutions at the current OS I have (i.e. all of sony applications to deal with the matter).
What can I do?
Hi there,
Can anyone recommend the best way for me to downconvert 10TB of 4K footage (yes, it's a lot) to HD, so I can edit it using my old Mac Pro?
I'm thinking I should downconvert to AVC-Intra 100 because that's what I've been using in Media Composer, it seems to me.
I'm hoping there's a software solution that isn't too expensive.
Regards, Malcolm
Hi All,
We are using the new AMT v3 SDK to create DNxHD files, and we found some isses and have some questions:
Thanks,

Bulk Edit is a great new feature I'm really happy with, but I think it could need a few improvments to make it more useful.
The one thing I'm missing the most is the option to modify current values.
Two examples:
- remove the last 3 digits of the current name
- search and replace strings in the current name (e.g "Copy.01")
I hope this is something Avid is working on to make this great new feature more powerful and save us editors a lot of tedious work!
I really like that we now have Bulk Edit, but can it please also get a 'Replace' function? Even just to get rid of ".Copy.01" and 'Sync.01'.
Thx!
So in 2 years Apple computers will be running ARM CPUs not intel.
That will require a seperate code base for Media composer as well as the Intel code base.
The rossetta translation or any sort of emulation just won't cut it for a piece of software that has to work directly with the hardware.
Also as Thunderbolt is Intel based its looking like Apple TB will be dropped for USB4.
So whats the future of Mac in editing with MC?

I do a fair amount of game shows and reality shows. Would love to keep locators from old notes passes in my sequence without having them always visible. Two features regarding locators would be great. A column in the markers window that can be sorted by "Date Added." And the ability to right click and hide a selection of markers so the dissapear/reappear on the timeline.
I have obviousl workarounds for this, but I think that feature would be great. It would allow me to quickly answer questions like "Is that audience shot there because of a note from the network?"
I work on a fair amount of stage shows. In the early stages of cutting we often keep in the Line Cut but then have to remove it before handing over to online. Would love a feature that could automatically place add edits where the line cut switches camera. That way the editor can quickly convert sections on the line cut to isos.
I am currently building my first editing suite at home.
At the moment I am having 2x normal monitors for timeline and bins and an EIZO CG279x as colour accurate preview monitor.
For sound I got two Genelec monitors set up.
I know that a professional post house is most likely to use a video interface like the Avid Artist I/O to connect the computer monitors and other devices using SDI cables etc. However my budget got its limits.
I would be very thankful if someone who has experience with I/Os could answer a few of my questions:
1. Do I need 2 interfaces. One video interface like the Avid Artist I/O and another audio interface like the prism lyra to connect everything or is there good interfaces for both at once, which is a better option / better deal for the money?
2. Which interface would be a good pick to connect 3 monitors to it and does it improve integration of my video monitors with software like Avid Media Composer and Davinci Resolve?
3. What benefits do I get from having the Avid Artist I/O if my computer already has good specs for editing. (Is something of the processing done by the interface (like these Afterburner cards Apple is selling in the new Mac Pros now)
4. Do video interfaces like the Avid Artist have a long life time?
I think I read something in another forum where it sounded like they will break every 2 years which got me worried because I would not want to invest a lot of money in it if it is something that breaks every 2 years and is therefor only suited for post houses that have the budget to change them that often.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this. :)
I normally use the “Find Bin” button to get into the bin of the scene which I’m editing, it’s a quick shortcut that avoids me always to scroll into the project. I think I’m not the only one to use this workaround, and it’s common for editors when you have many bins and folders in your project to open when you work on a scene (sfx, music, sync clips, etc).
In these new redisigned releases, 2019.6 and 2020.4, I was expecting that the “Find Bin” command would make it to appear into the bin container instead of opening it outside. In such a way, the idea of gathering all bins into one container fails, and you eventually finish to have a monitor filled with bins at the end of a working day.
Can this be corrected, so that the "find bin" opens the Bin INTO the bin container and not outside?
thx

hi Marianna,
I discussed this separately with Dennis, but here is our question in more detail:
We need a method to force update the AMA cache for linked files so that changes to the essence are reflected in MC timeline, but cannot find any such method in the SDK.
At the moment, if eg my_file.mxf (op1a) is linked and in the timeline and I make an essence insert to it, the audio and video shown in the timeline is still the original cached data.
Even re-linking the file does not fix this as it seems AMA views the metadata only and does not recognize a data change unless the UUID is changed, at which point it treats the asset as new and extracts new cached info. Obviously changing the UUIDs at every update is not viable.
Obviously this issue was resolved for Avid's own insert function for XAVC etc, so any help appreciated.
thanks
